    Hi Guys
Have a very straight forward question – have got a simple shoot and am goin to use HVX200 in HD mode with the P2 cards. Can I just connect the camera to my mac book pro and copy the files across to an external hard drive which the director will then take away to the edit? Is it this straight forward or do I need software or a firestore?
    Many thanks
    Phil

You will have to load the P2 driver onto the laptop. But it is pretty straighforward. You lose the camera for shooting while you are doing this, but it works.

Depending on the length of the takes, I transfer one card while still shooting out the other. I’ve had a day of 3-minute scenes with no down time (assuming there’s relighting/tweaking and the other “normal” breaks between takes).

Scott…he can’t do that. As he stated:

“Can I just connect the camera to my mac book pro and copy the files across to an external hard drive”

He will be using the camera to transfer the cards to the laptop. The camera is now a P2 reader, and thus out of production.

My mistake, Shane. When you said “load the P2 driver…” I was thinking “load the P2 card.”

Brain fart. Need to finish my latte…

You can also do this without using the laptop at all; you can connect a firewire drive directly to the HVX200 and have it offload its cards to the external drive.

How can you offload directly from the camera to a hard drive?

Second question, how can you setup the camera to act as a P2 reader to go straight into a computer?

[incredulous13] “How can you offload directly from the camera to a hard drive?”

    1394 Host mode.

[incredulous13] “Second question, how can you setup the camera to act as a P2 reader to go straight into a computer?”

For a Mac, use 1394 Device mode. For a Windows PC, use USB Device mode.
