Nothing new to worry about, everything works as before. There’s a new “hours of operation” meter, and a new “repair clip (loop)” function, but if you don’t use those then there’s nothing to worry about, everything will work exactly as before.

(and to further what Shane’s saying): no USB or firewire reader is going to work, other than the Panasonic ones. The direct PCI slot connection types will work in a desktop, or the Duel Adapter will work for an ExpressCard slot, but if you want to use USB or firewire then it has to be the Panasonic readers.

You can get a $70 PCI->PCMCIA adapter that fits in the back of a workstation and allows using PCMCIA cards. The P2 cards would work in that, I’m sure, but I’ve only seen these products available for Windows systems, I don’t know if one exists for Mac desktops.

No, you need version 4.05 to use 16GB cards.

It could, but what about the issues with having to reboot, and having to write-protect, and not running P2 Viewer, and using older technology instead of a brand-new dual-core system?
If someone needed to run FCP in the field then yes the used Powerbook is probably the better way to go.

Problem with that is that there are no intel Macs with the PCMCIA slot. So then you’re left trying to use the Duel Adaptor, which a) adds cost, and b) is bulky, and c) so far people keep reporting issues with it.
A $500 PC laptop is 1/3 the cost of a P2 Store, and that’s the way I look at it — doesn’t matter if it’s a Mac or a PC or Linux or whatever, it’s just an offloading tool.

If the frame rate you’re shooting at doesn’t match the frame rate you’re recording at, there will be no audio.
What this means is: if you’re shooting in 720/30pN, your frame rate *must* be set at 30 fps, or you won’t get audio.
If you’re shooting in 720/24pN, your frame rate *must* be set at 24 fps, or you won’t get audio.
Where the problem comes in is if you manually set your frame rate to 24fps, and then you change your recording format to 30pN. At that point you’re recording in 30pN at a 24fps frame rate, hence no audio. Or the other way around, recording in 24pN with a frame rate at 30.
One way to avoid this entirely is to use the “DEFAULT” frame rate setting. That’ll go to 30fps in 720/30pN, and 24fps in 720/24pN, and that will ensure that you’re always recording audio.

Definitely not limited to 8GB; the HVX200 will be able to use the 128GB cards when they come out a couple of years from now (and two of those loaded in-camera will give you 11 hours of 720/24pN)…
