The reason that it takes a long time before it starts to RAM preview could be that it’s previewing the audio first. Very annoying and unnecessary behavior… But that’s for 7.5…
You can disable audio previewing in the Time Controls Panel.
The reason that AE doesn’t preview the entire timeline is that RAM could be full. It can only buffer until RAM is completely used up.
And try installing the latest OpenGL drivers…

there was a tutorial here on deinterlacing in after effects. where you would keep the odd or even fields only, then add a bit of blur to fill in the other fields…. somehow I cannot find that, can someone help?”Well, I did a comparison on different methods of deinterlacing a long time ago. You should be able to find it by clicking on my mugshot in the forum and then scrolling down to the articles.
But: why would you want to drop a field entirely and add blur on top of that? You’ll end up with less than half of your resolution… Unless that’s what you’re trying to achieve.
Best to stick with AE’s own de-interlacing (separate fields and render without fields), or get ReelSmart FieldsKit.
Magic Bullet does a marginally better job at it, but costs a lot more than FieldsKit. Obviously it also does a lot more.

Probably about the same for these kinds of examples. What’s your disk system?

Dozens of ways…
But I’d probably just invert the clip (channel > invert), and add a Hue/Saturation effect, enable the colorize checkbox, lift the brighness a bit and adjust hue and saturation to taste.

I’m importing 10-bit BMD avi’s and quicktimes into AE 7.0 without problems…
Have you tried removing and re-installing the latest BMD drivers?

Although it is a good idea to quickly breakdown shots in elements, to show the complexity of your work (and to show how much of it was handwork… especially on photoreal effects people tend to wonder what was done digitally anyway), you need to keep up the pacing and NOT make it a tutorial.
You’re not trying to teach anyone, but show your qualities.
