They are standard definition files MPEG2 on a hard drive camcorder. Does that mean it is more complicated?

My files are MPEG2 so I assume I render as a MPEG 2? Does Vegas “store ” these rendered pieces in a folder or a “place”? How do I add all the pieces back to the timeline? Where are the rendered pieces located?

Great! Now when I am done with everything individually how do I “paste it all together?”

June 2, 2009 at 2:26 pm in reply to: Vegas Platinum 9.0b crashes with importing many filesI thought about making folders in explorer to act like my “bins” in Vegas. The only thing is, I need to use Picture Motion Browser software to get the video files to the computer, clip and name them and save the cut clips. Then I remove the “full clips” from that folder. Now what is confusing to me is when I move around any clips to different folders after saving them in PMB, the original folder they were in shows a grey box (indicating that file is no lnger in the original location and just sits there unless I manually delete it. Then, I get a little confused if the next time I open PMB if it FINDS the NEW FOLDER that I would have sorted out all the files.
I guess the main confusion for me is not knowing what/why PMB is doing when it “ANALYZES” and “REGISTERS” the files. A little too much technology for me! 🙂 Maybe It’s no big deal but I was a little worried about “rearranging” all of my files without having a better understanding.
(I may not use ALL of the 700 clips but most of them-average 10 second clip size over 40 minutes… I guess the math doesn’t support using ALL:) ) Maybe that’s how many clips I have “captured” in the past but obviously didn’t use them all.

I will contact Sony because I also downloaded the free 30 day Pro version and the program STILL shuts down-not sure if it is the same error message. I’m gonna look more at the ERROR reports on my computer if I can figure it out. I stumbled upon this last one.
I hope it’s not a corrupt file! That seems like looking for a needle in a haystack! I wish I could just start doing the FUN stuff 🙂

I haven’t even gotten to STARTING my project on the timeline. This is just IMPORTING to project media. Maybe I should try starting it to see what happens?
Can you briefly explain how to do the prerender process? I select a certain REGION on the timeline and prerender and do I save it along with my other project files? And then how do I “paste everything together? I was thinking that maybe I should break my project up and do One song at a time render them separately and then paste them together? Seems like a lot more work. Are rendered files easier on the computer?

After my last response (before I read your recent response) I thought I solved the problem. I uninstalled the Platinum Version 9 and downloaded the update 9.0b from the Sony website. I deleted my original project and restarted it using the update. Now when I say I deleted the project, I mean I deleted the project media and the original Vegas project. I DID NOT delete my saved video clips that I took from my Sony hard drive camcorder and used Picture Motion Browser (software that came with the camcorder) and saved in Folders separate from my project folder in Explorer. All of these clips are trimmed an named and sitting in explorer ready to be added to my new project. If I delete these files, that is HOURS & HOURS of work AND some of the files I have deleted from my camcorder.
Anyway, I thought I was getting somewhere and the system WAS NOT crashing but the problem is back! At least this time a window popped up saying the following:
Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library
This applocation has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact applications support team for more informationWHAT DOES THIS MEAN?!?!?
The variable I see here are:
-I have a new hard drive camcorder instead of a digital 8 camcorder
-I need to use Picture Motion Browser software to get my video from the camcorder to the computer before I bring it into my Vegas program.
-I have a new version of Vegas (The version 6 worked fine for me for numerous past projects)
-and lastly, I have a new laptop that works under VISTA 64 Bit vs. Windows XP that I use on my desktop.I AM SO CONFUSED AND FRUSTRATED… because I have spent Sooooo much time merely trying to deal with these problems when we all know how long making the actual project takes which I haven’t come close to even starting!
I am NOT a computer person and my husband tells me that maybe it isn’t worth all of the frustration but I LOVE being able to be creative with making these videos. Is it too much for the average consumer to expect that a SONY camcorder would work with SONY VEGAS software? I also thought I would avoid all of this by not investing in a high definition camcorder since I heard lots of stories about the software compatibilty problems with the newer technology.
Do you think my laptop is powerful enough? It has at least twice as much as my desktop that seemed to do fine. So far I have about 150 video clips in my project media list. My last video was about 40 minutes long and had over 700 clips.
Is this a VISTA issue?
Is there a better way to get my video from my camcorder to the computer? The computer doesn’t seem to recognize my camcorder as a separate hard drive and I spent hours trying to figure out how to do it without using the Picture Motion Browser software that it came with.
I feel like I am close and yet so far. If this is all I had to do in my life it would be one thing but with 5 kids at home, my husband and a job outside the home, minutes are precious for me-if only I didn’t need to sleep!
Thanks!

I did load some photos from a few cd discs and filed them through windows software. Could this have goofed up things? I have to load my video files using sony picture motion browser software before i bring it into my vegas project. Picture motion browser also analyses any photos that I load onto my computer. Should I try to delete those photos?
I also just downloaded the update to Vegas Platinum 9.0b. Do you think this will help? All of the other videos I have made I was able to “capture” my video right to Vegas. This 2 step process needing to go through Picture motion browser first because my camcorder is a “hard drive” has made things a little more difficult. FYI my camcorder IS NOT high definition.
Thanks!

Hey guys,
I’m not sure why but it seems to be working fine now! Go figure! I’m not a computer techy and I always forget to try and shut down and restart the computer and program if something isn’t working quite right. Thanks for your time! With My Regards!

Hi & thanks for your response. I checked again and it says it is a MPEG file and when I check the properties it gives me a list of programs to use to open it. Vegas is not listed but Windows Movie Maker is compatible. I was wondering about the need to CONVERT the file but can anyone tell me how to do this?
