    Hi Everyone,
I have posted several times about trying to get this version of Vegas NOT PRO to work. Of the over 50 crashes i have encountered I found about 6 unique error messages in the report that made up the total 50. I am going to see if an IT person can interpret these for me seeing as I have a Vegas 64 bit and Sony does not support this version.

I am restarting the project and wonder if the glitches may have been related to me trying to import too many clips at a time causing something funky to happen? My daughter was able to make a 5 minute video using this version and everything worked without a problem. My videos are more like 30-40 minutes and I’m not thinking there are a lot of complex things I insert-basic crossfades, some text, some video overlay but that’s it. I suppose the sheer length and amount of clips make it faulty.

I have done these long videos with NO problems using version 6 on Windows XP and the way I used to get the clips in the project was to CAPTURE from my digital 8 so all of the media was already in the project. With my standard definition hard drive camcorder I need to IMPORT the clips and this is where the program crashes. (I haven’t even started adding things to the timeline.

    My questions are:
1.Usually I would sort my clips into bins so I knew where to find certain ones. Is there a way to organize my clips outside on Vegas rather than trying to import all 700 clips? In explorer?

2.I will have about 10 different songs and was thinking I could work on 1 song at a time and then render and save that portion? I have only rendered the WHOLE project so I’m not sure I understand how to render a portion and then reattach it at the end? (Do I basically hit make movie when I’m done and the program knows to render what hasn’t been already and then attach the “prerenderd” parts?

3.If I do render a portion at a time will it ask me where to save it so I can keep the files together?

4.I have seen people render to specific file types does this matter? I suspect to render the WHOLE project it has to be the same file type? Mine are mpg2.

    With My Regards!

You can organize your files in Windows Explorer, using folders for each import session, or using folders for each “location,” etc. If you’ve got 700 clips, that’s probably the best option.
You really need all 700 for a single project? The crash is more likely related to hardware on your ‘puter than Vegas itself.
Then again, I don’t use the import feature on Platinum nor Pro. I just use the Vegas Explorer to preview what’s already on my HDD.

I thought about making folders in explorer to act like my “bins” in Vegas. The only thing is, I need to use Picture Motion Browser software to get the video files to the computer, clip and name them and save the cut clips. Then I remove the “full clips” from that folder. Now what is confusing to me is when I move around any clips to different folders after saving them in PMB, the original folder they were in shows a grey box (indicating that file is no lnger in the original location and just sits there unless I manually delete it. Then, I get a little confused if the next time I open PMB if it FINDS the NEW FOLDER that I would have sorted out all the files.

I guess the main confusion for me is not knowing what/why PMB is doing when it “ANALYZES” and “REGISTERS” the files. A little too much technology for me! 🙂 Maybe It’s no big deal but I was a little worried about “rearranging” all of my files without having a better understanding.

(I may not use ALL of the 700 clips but most of them-average 10 second clip size over 40 minutes… I guess the math doesn’t support using ALL:) ) Maybe that’s how many clips I have “captured” in the past but obviously didn’t use them all.

Therein lies the answer, I’m nearly 100% positive.
Toss that garbage app from your ‘puter. Copy the raw stream files over from your camcorder, I’ll bet the problem goes away.

PMB is terrible. Horrible. Should be illegal. Creates far more problems than it attempts to solve.
