Vegas program keeps crashing
Posted by Audra Yentz on May 11, 2009 at 5:54 pmI have Vegas Platinum Version 9 and a new Dell laptop Studio XPS 16 with 500GB 7200 RPM hard drive
4 GB RAM
Intel Core 2 Duo processor P8700 2.53 GHZ
ATI Mobility RADEON HD 3670-512MB Graphic card
64 Bit VISTAI am having lots of problems all of a sudden with my software. It keeps crashing first just when I was trying to add video files to my project media from explorer and now I can’t even seem to open my existing project at all. I was on the phone with Dell an they were on my computer checking everything. They cleaned up some things and uninstalled then reinstalled Vegas and it seemed to work a few times. Then I went back into the project and it started up again. It may be after I downloaded the update 9.0b?
The window says:
A problem caused the program to stop working correctly.I haven’t really started my project but have sorted lots & lots of video clips into bins in the project media. I have spent half the day already trying to fix this problem and it seems to just be getting worse.
Thanks for the help!

May 15, 2009 at 2:49 amI did load some photos from a few cd discs and filed them through windows software. Could this have goofed up things? I have to load my video files using sony picture motion browser software before i bring it into my vegas project. Picture motion browser also analyses any photos that I load onto my computer. Should I try to delete those photos?
I also just downloaded the update to Vegas Platinum 9.0b. Do you think this will help? All of the other videos I have made I was able to “capture” my video right to Vegas. This 2 step process needing to go through Picture motion browser first because my camcorder is a “hard drive” has made things a little more difficult. FYI my camcorder IS NOT high definition.
Thanks!

May 15, 2009 at 9:57 amok…this is what you do.
Uninstall your current version of vegas and delete
all its related folders. Then go back and install the
previous version (version 9.0a) and let me know if the
issues still continue.Steve Rhoden

May 18, 2009 at 3:56 amAfter my last response (before I read your recent response) I thought I solved the problem. I uninstalled the Platinum Version 9 and downloaded the update 9.0b from the Sony website. I deleted my original project and restarted it using the update. Now when I say I deleted the project, I mean I deleted the project media and the original Vegas project. I DID NOT delete my saved video clips that I took from my Sony hard drive camcorder and used Picture Motion Browser (software that came with the camcorder) and saved in Folders separate from my project folder in Explorer. All of these clips are trimmed an named and sitting in explorer ready to be added to my new project. If I delete these files, that is HOURS & HOURS of work AND some of the files I have deleted from my camcorder.
Anyway, I thought I was getting somewhere and the system WAS NOT crashing but the problem is back! At least this time a window popped up saying the following:
Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library
This applocation has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact applications support team for more informationWHAT DOES THIS MEAN?!?!?
The variable I see here are:
-I have a new hard drive camcorder instead of a digital 8 camcorder
-I need to use Picture Motion Browser software to get my video from the camcorder to the computer before I bring it into my Vegas program.
-I have a new version of Vegas (The version 6 worked fine for me for numerous past projects)
-and lastly, I have a new laptop that works under VISTA 64 Bit vs. Windows XP that I use on my desktop.I AM SO CONFUSED AND FRUSTRATED… because I have spent Sooooo much time merely trying to deal with these problems when we all know how long making the actual project takes which I haven’t come close to even starting!
I am NOT a computer person and my husband tells me that maybe it isn’t worth all of the frustration but I LOVE being able to be creative with making these videos. Is it too much for the average consumer to expect that a SONY camcorder would work with SONY VEGAS software? I also thought I would avoid all of this by not investing in a high definition camcorder since I heard lots of stories about the software compatibilty problems with the newer technology.
Do you think my laptop is powerful enough? It has at least twice as much as my desktop that seemed to do fine. So far I have about 150 video clips in my project media list. My last video was about 40 minutes long and had over 700 clips.
Is this a VISTA issue?
Is there a better way to get my video from my camcorder to the computer? The computer doesn’t seem to recognize my camcorder as a separate hard drive and I spent hours trying to figure out how to do it without using the Picture Motion Browser software that it came with.
I feel like I am close and yet so far. If this is all I had to do in my life it would be one thing but with 5 kids at home, my husband and a job outside the home, minutes are precious for me-if only I didn’t need to sleep!
Thanks!

January 5, 2010 at 12:50 pmI know this is an old post.. but I just read it while searching for a similiar issue.. and I think you’re problem may have to do with your photos..
I had a similiar problem when I added phots. But, I realized each photo was about 8 meg.
To resolve this, I used a program (in this case lightroom, but that shouldn’t make a difference) to reduce the files dramatically (largest file I think is now 2 meg) and it appears to be working smoothly.
You shouldn’t lose much quality as you’re likely not trying to blow each photo up.
Edit photos outside of vegas and then save to 1-2 meg per file (or less) and you may be fine.

August 10, 2010 at 3:55 pmI concur with this post. I had a nightmare time trying to use Vegas Paltinum 9.0b to render a project. Whatever format I tried, I would get random crashes. I was using a couple of large image files taken straight off my HD camcorder. I opened the image files in PaintShopp Pro and resaved them as JPG with 10% compression. The images still looked great but came done from 2MB to 150Kb each. Whether it is by fluke or not, my project now renders every time and in any format. I am so relieved. Thank you for this post – you don’t know how close I was getting to throwing my pc out the window.

August 11, 2010 at 6:08 pmHi I am not very computer smart and I am having the exact same problem except I don’t use photo’s I use video clips that I convert from DvDs using wonderhsare coverter and ripper. Now Sony worked fine for a while..and then whenever I tried to render a video it would pop up with that error message or simply close down.
I don’t know how to make the video clips a smaller meg size. Could you please help me? Also sometimes I will be working on a vid and it just closes for no reason.
