this data calculator only shows video sizes
what about 320×240i understand the math part of it…
but i’ve been exporting the video out of fcp thru the quicktime conversion
i get an ok quailty video but it doesn’t seem like a small enough file
so then i put it thru squeeze but it’s not really working so well -
i find the pain in the ass stuff in no particular order
1) keeping up with technology (new cameras–new editing—new programs)
2) once i catch up i have to re-catch up with technology
3) working the loop
4) $$$$$$$$$$$$$plus i’m east coast…which has it’s benefits because they are starting to shoot alot out here…especially in my state….but i just can’t take the left coast on a daily basis…so it’s a choice i live with trying to battle into the industry

i see what dave is saying…
he’s not debating whether it’s crap or not…
what he’s actually trying to say (i think 😉 )is that hollywood set the standard and everyone followed…
and now it’s the norm
if hollywood set the standard at 48….then that would be the standard today,i think the word crap is operative here.
unless of course he actually does think it’s crap…
i relate it to cars…they could make electric cars the standard…but they won’t cause of old school oil mentality,
-
damn…you are the top of the food chain !
that’s awsome.i spent 10 years in front of the camera i then started my own production company with aspirations…
but i won’t go forward till i know all the technical stuff (well enough to make sure i know what is possible)so i really appreciate your advice and information.
-
thanks again…i will read that article…
noah where do you work or do you own your own company ? -
that’s great information…and rather than check the validaty of it…i’m just going to take it in and accept it ! i love old school hollywood and their refusal to change their ways…costing movie prices to go over 8-9 bucks a ticket !
so the real question i’m left asking is i shoot on 24p 0r 30p…if i edit in final cut pro…it’s still a 29.97 timeline, right ? is that the standard way or am i missing something here.
-
i see…
but even at 24p i have to edit in a 29.97 timeline right…
i’d have to shoot in 24 p advance to edit in a 23…timeline ? -
thanks !
that’s my opinion as well…i asked the executive producer why they shoot 30p instead of 24p but he said he doesn’t know why…i guess i just wanted to make sure i wasn’t doing anything stupid…but i think i’ll stay 24p.
-
thanks !
yes i was using compressor right from the time line…
i’m going to try it the other way now…
i’ll let you know how it goes -
thanks !
yeah you bet i’m having fun…compressing and recompressing and trying to squeeze good looking video onto a dvd without losing too much of the quality….
oh boy it’s loads of fun !!!
ha 😉i am using fcp
usually what i do is export the movie with the quicktime movie feature than drop it in toast and bam…there’s a dvd…
but this video being so long hasn’t worked out…
so you are suggesting i export the audio out compressed bring it back in ? and then export it for encoding….thus the audio file will be smaller ?
