You can save your preferred settings for the TC generator or reader as a “favorite”, and then you can apply it with a single click to your shots in the future.
Also, there’s a TC generator or reader filter in Compressor. I’ve never used it, but it’s worth looking into to help automate your situation.
Finally, you can make a “blank” frame in Photoshop, save edit that into a timeline, apply the TC generator to it & use that as a template project for your future use. Simply make a black color solid in PS, add a black alpha channel, flatten & save it as a .tif or .tga, and that can be your blank.

That workflow is correct. You leave your timeline settings as ProRes HQ 23.976, then under go to the View menu and near the bottom will be a submenu for your playout settings. Change this to 1080i 29.97 and let the Kona add the pulldown. I don’t recall for sure, but I think there’s a place in FCP where you can specify the pulldown patter, but if you can set it in the Kona Control panel, more the better.

To be fair, the opening graphic was well done. Very Middle-School choice of logo, but well executed. But I find it odd that every time you see type in their carousel of bad video, it’s backwards!

Place a layer of black slug above the clip you want to matte & move, apply a 4-point garbage matte to the slug, cutting a hole in it for your widescreen matte. Now you can move your other clip underneath it without effecting the matte.
BTW, I thought that FCP’s widescreen matte effect had motion controls at the filter level.

I don’t get it. Why are you upconverting, only to downconvert again? If you need to deliver your SD program in both SD & HD, you should finish it in SD & only upconvert the final output.

If it’s 1280×720 it should not be interlaced at all. 720 is always progressive. The still you posted looks like it may be interlaced SD that’s been blown up into your 720 timeline.

You can only show the keyframes in the keyframe editor window, but if it helps, you can tear that tab off and keep it open as a separate window.
