  • motion and matte on same clip…

Posted by Mark Kohl on May 6, 2009 at 4:14 am

Hi, I’m having trouble adding a widescreen matte after adjusting the motion. I find that if I adjust the motion 1 or 2 degrees, the matte is adjusted as well. Is there a way around this? Thanks, Mark

Filters are rendered before the Motion effects.
You need to nest before apply the matte.
change the motion values in the sequence before nesting.

You need to nest your clip with transformation apply a then apply widescreen matte to the sequence.
But i find more convenient to create the mask out side FC (Motion or Photoshop e.g.) and apply the matte on the top most layer. in this way you can make All the change you wont to all the clip without need nest.

Place a layer of black slug above the clip you want to matte & move, apply a 4-point garbage matte to the slug, cutting a hole in it for your widescreen matte. Now you can move your other clip underneath it without effecting the matte.

BTW, I thought that FCP’s widescreen matte effect had motion controls at the filter level.
