  • Laying back a logo on DVCPRO HD for future use.

I was recently given a logo that a friend would like laid back to tape. The logo is a TIFF sequence that was converted into a ProRes(HQ) 1080psf 23.976.

I need to layback this logo to DVCPRO HD, however his final delivery is going to D5HD. Since his final delivery will be 23.976 psf, my plan was to lay the 23.976 clip in a 1080 23.976 psf sequence using the easy setup. Set my video playback from 1080 23.976 psf to 1080 29.97i, and under the Codec tab of my AJA control panel, set Pattern to 2:3:3:2 so that the pulldown can be removed when they capture this logo later.

I would then layback to DVCPRO HD. Does this workflow sound off in anyway? I use a Mac Pro with 4GB RAM, a four way RAID 0, Kona 3, and am using a Panasonic HD 1400 to do the tape edit.

That workflow is correct. You leave your timeline settings as ProRes HQ 23.976, then under go to the View menu and near the bottom will be a submenu for your playout settings. Change this to 1080i 29.97 and let the Kona add the pulldown. I don’t recall for sure, but I think there’s a place in FCP where you can specify the pulldown patter, but if you can set it in the Kona Control panel, more the better.
