You’ll need to use AE or Combustion to do this. You won’t be able to do this in FCP or Motion because both of those apps are limited to no more than 4096 pixels in either direction.
And while you’re at it, make sure you make the orange broadcast safe!

You can do this if you create different users on your Mac, then in FCP’s system preferences you can designate one scratch disk for the first user, quit FCP, log on as the second user and designate a new scratch disk. Whenever you sign on, FCP would use only the scratch disk for that user.

That’s what I do, unless there’s a client that needs to see it rendered.
I’m usually satisfied with previews, still frames & scrubbing through to get an idea of the final product. Once I’ve got the edit close to locked down I’ll start rendering.

One method would have been to never, ever change the name of clips from P2, XDCam or other tapeless cameras. For exactly this reason.
FCP gives you several fields in the browser where you can add shot numbers, takes and comments. Use those, but leave the original media names alone.

It sounds like Motion is only rendering one field when you have the field rendering turned off. What are your motion project settings?
