P2 Footage Organization
Just finished shooting a project on P2 over several days. Lots of files and Only good takes were captured into FCP. After the edit we discovered that we needed to recapture a couple of shots but we cannot find a good method to trace back to the original files which are archived on back up disks. The file name and extension from the original P2 is different from the file name in FCP. What is a good method for dealing with this problem?

The REEL number of the clips will correspond to the FOLDER that contains that particular shot. Highlight all the clips from one folder, then hit BATCH CAPTURE…direct FCP to the backup disk and the appropriate folder and then let it go.

One method would have been to never, ever change the name of clips from P2, XDCam or other tapeless cameras. For exactly this reason.
FCP gives you several fields in the browser where you can add shot numbers, takes and comments. Use those, but leave the original media names alone.

With P2 it’s not a problem to change a clip name.
It maybe a problem with the reel name when doing “Log & Transfer” – the reel name is a problem in itself when it comes to spanned clips.Andreas
