If you want video output from Shake, you need to use the extended desktop from your Aja or Decklink card. Which conflicts with Color. So you may need to toggle between settings as you switch from one to the other.

I recently made a very cool countdown involving spinning numbers and particles for Heavy Light Digital, a shop where I freelance as the online editor & colorist. Since HLD does DI and film record outs, my countdown is seen by projectionists instead of tape ops!

It would be best for you to us the Boris 3D text generator that’s included with FCP. That gives you better quality text than FCP’s “native” generator, plus it can more easily do outlines and drop shadows.

don’t go with SCSI. Buy a SAS controller and use a SATA array. People on this forum have reported speeds of 400-500MB/s with 8 drive arrays. And a SAS controller will support RAID 5.

Even if it does, those extra channels have not been cut into your timeline. If you want to add these extra channels into your edit, you’ll have to cut them in one at a time.

What codec did they ask for? You need to nail them down on that.

I think that this is a premultiplication error. Open up the media tab, select that clip, then in the inspector, change the premult setting until the line goes away.
If it doesn’t go away, it’s an aliasing error. In that case, you’ll need to blur the alpha slightly, maybe 1 or 2%.

Motion defaults to 8 bit color space, which is fine for most things. If you want to preserve your super-white colors, try setting your motion project settings to 16 or 32 bit color space. This will take a little longer to render, and it may cause some “object too large to render at this setting” type warnings.

You really need to speak to the lab about some of these questions.

The lab transfered the film for you, they can tell you what frame rate & codec they’ve transfered it to on the drive they’re giving you.

If they’re doing the HD conform and the DI, then they will most likely be the one’s to conform the 18fps 8mm to 24fps. Check with them about this. They may have a specific way of doing it on their telecine or with a Smoke or Flame or an IQ.
