You need to upgrade to FCP 7 if you want to use ProRes LT, ProRes Proxy or ProRes 4444.

Absolutely. That’s one of the things that the Kona 3 does well. It will down convert 1080 or 720 to letterbox SD, and it will cross convert anamorphic SD to letterbox.
The caveat is that it has to come into the Kona over SDI.

I use both.
I use the mouse for most things, & I have the side buttons mapped to be a double click & a sticky click.
I use the pen for a lot of stuff, too. Especially anything involving splines or curves.

The problem with using a Teranex is that if it hits a cut that starts on a pulldown frame, the next frame or 2 will be mushy. If you use the K3 to convert, you never add the pulldown, less mush.

If you have a Kona 3, then you’re all set. The Kona can upconvert your 24P DV to 24P 1080 without having to go through the headache of adding and removing pulldown. It’s simply a setting in the Kona control panel.

First off, there’s no such thing as 23.98 on DV tape. All DV tape is either 29.97 or 25. DV Cameras that shoot 24P lay it onto tape with pulldown. But you knew that…
Do you have a Decklink or Kona card on your edit system? If so, you might be able to use the card to upconvert from DV 23.98 to 1080 23.98PsF. Many of these cards will do that conversion, and they do it well.

I’ve never seen an eSata host card with a RAID5 engine on board. If you know of one, though, I’d like to hear about it.

If you want a RAID 5 option, then eSata is not for you. You should be looking at a controller with RAID 5 built in. Those controllers are either SAS or the lower end ones will use infiniband (multilane) cabling. Areca and Atto make the controllers, enclosures are available from a lot of manufacturers, including Sonnet.
