reconnecting offline media to new files with a new suffix in the file name
so i am doing an offline edit for a feature shot on a RED camera. all the files now have a _H at the end because its all now HALF res… anyway FCP is looking for the old file name with no _H. I could just reconnect manually each one of the thousand or so clips by just unchecking the “Match name and Reel only” box but is there some kinda script or automator program or someway to tell FCP to look for the same file name except with a _H.???
please someone know this because it will save me a all nighter!!

FCP reconnects via FILE NAME, and if it is different IN ANY WAY AT ALL, it wont work.
only two way to go with this:
reconnect manually.
remove the _H from the files using a batch re-naming app.
i like R-name.if you need some form of differentiation,
then put the files in a different FOLDER.if you really, really need the _H, do this:
REMOVE the _H,
reconnect,
add the _H in FCP (you could automate this, but for a one-off job it can quicker to do it manually)
the use the Modify Menu > Rename function to rename the FILES to match the CLIPS.
(Also accessible by right clicking on the clips)nick

then put the files in a different FOLDER.”Red proxies must be in the same folder as the .r3d file it refers to or it won’t work. The Red proxies are only reference movies. if they’re not in the same folder as the originals they won’t be able to see the data that they need to play.

i see. (i haven’t worked with red media yet.)
so i’m guessing the only real way to alter the names (removing the _H)
would be to first alter the names of the master, full res files first,
so there’s no file name duplicationbut that would probably screw something else up.
