If I understand you, the video you’re editing already has this extra layer of video playing on the faces “baked in” to it in camera. And you want to add a filter to the layer of video playing on the faces. If that’s the case, there’s no way to do this without effecting the faces.
If you want to create these kinds of effects in camera, then you need to add all of the filters to the projected video before you shoot.

select the layer that the type is in and make sure that it’s set to “Fixed Resolution” and that the resolution is the same as the Motion project.

By your rule of thumb it would take about 3 weeks to edit a 2 hour feature film. That would be a really neat trick.
Likewise it would take half an hour to edit a :30 second spot. Also pretty neat.
In one of his books, Walter Murch talks about his habit of tallying up the number of cuts in the final edit of each film he completes and dividing it by the time he works on it. He tends to average one cut per day.
That doesn’t mean that he sits down on day one, agonizes over the first cut for several hours and goes home. What that really means is that after the first assembly is made a few weeks after shooting wraps, he spends a year and a half or more shaping and reshaping the film.

How does it look on your external video monitor? you should only judge video quality by a calibrated video monitor and video scopes, not by a computer monitor.

What’s the point? This videographer busts his ass to make haff-assed throw away videos that he barely breaks even on? He’d be better off staying home playing computer games and drinking beer. OK, he’d really be better off working on his reel and looking for a better gig.

Let them. I’m not so sure, though, that it’s better than making no money. They could be shooting a personal project that would make them better film makers in the long run. They could be working as stringers for the local news outlet. They could be shooting weddings.
Nobody wins in a race to the bottom, except maybe the person who sponsors the race. First one to the bottom gets the least for working the hardest. It’s a no-win game that we’d all be better off not playing.

Personally, I’d use Compressor for this. Either make a default setting with default location and import all of the shots to batch convert everything, or make a droplet and drop all of the shots on them.

I use both the analog and digital versions of the dual. We use them for sterescopic 3d, and they work as advertised. And I agree with Shane, it’s annoying that dialog windows pop up right smack in the middle of the split.
