applying effect to one point of frame
Hi there,
i’ve had an ambitious idea, a little too beyond my scope as an editor at this point in time – so I need your help!
i’ve shot a music video – some of the shots are of faces with projected images of faces being projected live on top of those faces. I want to use the bad tv plug in, and some other things – to make the projections on their faces look like old video – while leaving the rest of the video in tact.
what tools would i use? i’ve been messing around with the 8-point garbage matte and am reluctant to keep persevering with it until i know whether or not there is a better alternative. How would some of you go about doing this? The images as they are look good, so this is just a little added something, hence it would need to be possible to make this look convincing otherwise its not worth spoiling some good images.

First step is to shoot them against blue screen. Can you do that?

If I understand you, the video you’re editing already has this extra layer of video playing on the faces “baked in” to it in camera. And you want to add a filter to the layer of video playing on the faces. If that’s the case, there’s no way to do this without effecting the faces.
If you want to create these kinds of effects in camera, then you need to add all of the filters to the projected video before you shoot.
