I have to agree that there are some serious problems with Compressor 2.
I love the new interface (or, at least the fact that they actually gave it an interface!), & I’ve always thought that you got reasonable good quality if you were willing to learn how to use the tools.
Unfortunately, trying to create mpegs with 2 pass VBR is now completely unworkable. The files look fine, but they come out waaaaay larger than they’re supposed to be. Luckily, CBR is still working, & if your DVD has less than 90 minutes of total video, you can still produce a very good looking DVD with it.
However, since I have to regularly produce DVDs with 3-4 hours worth of video, I recently bought megaPegX, & I’m not looking back until Apple fixes the problems.
OTOH, Compressor does do a lot of other things pretty well, & I love the workflow with it.

Do you mean a countdown? Or a 2-pop, which is just the 1 frame beep at 2 seconds before your show starts?
Search the forum here for coundowns & you’ll find that you already have one on your FCP install disk.

One of your source files, or perhaps a layer, is bigger than that 2k size. Are you working with stills? Or, perhaps, you’re using particles? Once you identify the culprit layer, you can make that layer ‘fixed resolution’ in the inspector. I think there was a tutorial specifically about setting layers to fixed resolution here on the cow a couple of months ago. It explains the issue rather well.

You may need to set up the alpha, first. BTW, You can do the same thing with a pict or tiff file.

You can purchase stock footage from NASA for next to nothing- basically the cost of tape stock & shipping. They have a catalog of stock footage in pdf that you can download. Go to nasa.gov & do a search for terms like ‘stock footage’ or ‘archival footage’, it may take a few tries to find it, but I think you’ll find that they have some very nicely done animations in their catalog.

As well it should. Just like it falls on the plumber, carpenter or electrician to make sure that their work complies to all the relevant building, fire & health codes. Part of being a professional is knowing what standards need to be applied & when.
