Are you exporting as PAL? Check the export settings.

[Mike Schrengohst] “Does the MAC use a card driver?”

FCP 5 has an option in the Import menu to import ‘Panasonic P2’. IOW, the driver is built right into FCP 5.

That 2nd email reminds me of a piece of ‘vaporware’ called Imagek. It was supposed to be a ccd that you could drop into any 35mm still camera to turn it into a digital camera. They dragged a non working prototype around to trade shows for 2 or 3 years before it was finally made obsolete by cheaper digital still cams with higher resolution.

The moral of my story? I’ll believe it when they ship it!

FWIW, I have one of their older, entry level MediaPress cards. The quality is very good, & it gives me real time encoding of DV on an older G4. BTW, my G5 is faster than real time for CBR!

I’m using a pair of 19″ Planar LCDs on my G5. Both 4X3. Works quite well for me.

    Poopy on Magic Bullet!

Buy set. I use Graeme’s Film Effects all the time. I’ve also used Sapphire’s film look plug ins, & I like Graeme’s better.

Some time back, I think I heard of someone using a SanCube firewire SAN for something like this. I’d expect you’d probably drop a lot of frames, though.

[BrionD] “I haven’t a clue why my FCP HD 4.5 compressor gives an error message each time I compress the film”

It might actually help if you posted the text of the error message.

[BrionD] “Always at the about 50% completed time.”

Here’s a rule of thumb: if you always have the same error in the same place, there’s something wrong in that specific place. You may need to look at both the picture & the audio to find it, because there are times when a problem with one will cause a subtle, yet disastrous problem with the other. I’ve seen audio spikes cause glitches in the picture, for example, or a spike in the luma cause a pop in the audio.

2 good places to look for plug ins are toolfarm.com & pluginz.com. Also, many (but not all) plug ins written for After Effects will work in FCP.

For Rotoscoping, look at either Silhouette Roto or Motion.

I ran some tests, & I found it did at least as good a job on making mpegs at low bitrates. I cut together a 5 min movie with lots of fast motion & dissolves & ran it through Compressor, megaPegX & BitVice using VBR at the same bitrates, then burned the results to a DVD & watched it on the same video monitor that I use for editing. You can download a demo from them at https://www.digigami.com/
