If Motion doesn’t give you what you want (it has decent rotoscoping tools, but you may want better), take a look at Silhouette Roto. There’s both an FCP plugin & a standalone app.

Yup, David, I agree with you on the cost. Between these 2 brands, I’d tilt towards Pioneer. If we were talking about Plextor vs Lite-On, I’d pay the extra $$, but Pioneer is one of the leading brands.

If you look at the specs on the Intel based mini (which sounds like the ‘early 2006’ model to me), you’ll see that it has integrated video, using an Intel chipset & shared memory with the system RAM. I think the graphic subsystem is just to low end to support FCP & Motion.

That requires 3D space. Motion doesn’t currently have that, but I think that Zaxworks is now making a 3D plugin for motion.

I don’t know what the numbers are, Mitch, but dual core should always be faster than dual processor at the same speed. The CPUs share a bus in DC, along with (I think) some of the cache, so they swap information & tasks much more quickly. But the idea of an 8 CPU mac (the OctoMac?) is reeeaaaaly sexy! Talk about fast encodes! (note to self: I need to get out more!)
BTW, I’m curious to know what OS Intel ran that render test on. I bet it was not something sold in a retail box out of Redmond, WA. 🙂

Vector shapes are not really made up of pixels. They’re described by angles (vectors) & other mathematical formulae. That’s what makes them so flexible.
