I’ve done this, too. It’s possible to simply toggle back & forth between the Io & a FW deck during an edit/capture session with no ill effect. I have a client with an Io, and we typically offline to FW 800 drives plugged into the same main FW bus as the Io.

Well, you might just want to crop those 2 pixels, no matter what.
But this is more important- go to your local multiplex. Watch a movie. While your watching, take a minute (during a dull part, of course!) to look at the black curtains that hang at the top, bottom, right & left of the screen. Odds are that you’ll see some of the picture is on one of those curtains! So yes, action safe matters on cinema screens.

We’ve purchased the 17″ for the film I’m working on to have on set. So far, we’ve used it to work with the test footage & back plates that we’ve shot. We’re considering the 26″ for when we wrap shooting. I really think that both monitors are a really good value, especially since they already have HD-SDI inputs & a waveform (what, no vectorscope?). We made the decision to buy the 17″ after we saw it & the 26″ side by side at a SMPTE trade show & we were blown away by the image quality & the rich blacks.

The easiest way to do this is to use a ‘small caps’ font, where the lower case letters are small caps & the upper case are large caps. You can look for fonts on linotype.com.

If it was me, I think I’d get a sizable (and non-refundable0 deposit from this guy. Either he’s gonna complain about how crappy his HD looks, or he doesn’t have any money left for a proper online. Either way, you can easily wind up on the loosing end. Good luck!

First of all, I think it’s foolhardy to use a RAID 0 array as your boot drive. In RAID 0, a failure on any drive in the array will lead to the entire array crashing, and all the data being lost. IOW, the possibility of your boot drive crashing goes up with the number of drives in the array. If I’d done better than pass statistics back in college (which was over 20 years ago), I could probably tell you how much it goes up as you add drives to the array.
Having said that, what happens if you reformat the drives as separate volumes & try to boot from each of them? It could be that one of the drives is flaky, or that there’s some feature in the drives (their implementation of NCQ or SMART for example) that FCP doesn’t agree with.

You’d probably be best off shooting either 720P at 24PN, or 1080i at 24P with advanced pulldown. 24PN records only the active picture frames to the card, saving space & removing the hassle of pulldown. 1080i with advanced pulldown lets you remove the pulldown when you import the clips into FCP & work in a 23.98 timeline directly in FCP.

FCP 2 will only run under OS9. I don’t think it’s possible to run OS9 on any intel mac.

I’d be willing to bet that the .psd files that open as a single, flattened file originated on Windows or maybe on OS9. Simply re-open those files & re-save them on OS X.
