Try Disk Warrior. Many of us swear by it. Also, if you’re backing up to a hard drive, you should probably be backing up to 2 of them. For just this reason.

Are you saying that the transparency at top & bottom is 1 pixel high? Or just that there are transparent bands at the top & bottom?
Also, is your DVCPro footage 1080 or 720?
Check the scaling in FCP, & make sure that’s not causing the transparent strips.
Finally, how did you receive these files? Why did you bring them into Motion? Maybe you didn’t need to.
FWIW, I prefer to make all of my HD comps square pixel, and simply render them to the appropriate codec. I’d leave anything being rendered to animation codec as 1920X1080 square pixels & just drop it into my DVC Pro timeline that way.

I would run the HD material through Compressor to down convert it. Use the options under the Frame tab to try to optimize the conversion. IOW, run some tests to figure out which frame settings will give you the best quality.

Dropped frames almost always mean 1 thing: your hard drives are too slow for the video you’re trying to put on them.
If you search this forum for ‘dropped frames’ or ‘dropping frames’, you’ll see that they almost alwyas have to do with the drives that are being used. So, tell us about the hard drive that you’re trying to capture to.

Do you mean a teleconverter? Yes, I think Century Optics makes a good teleconverter for this camera.

And some refurbs may have been making the rounds at trade shows. Lots of companies sell off the demo units that you see at their booths at trade shows. Some companies label them as refurbs, others label them as B-stock or open box.

In your FCP manual is a diagram that shows how connect your deck, speakers and video monitor. The 1st thing you should check is to see that everything is connected properly.

Are you sure that they asked for 1080 HDV, and not 1080 HD? I’ve spoken to a large number of labs in the last year, and they all seem to distinguish between HDV and “real HD”.

out of how many GB? If your drives are more than 75% full, you can expect to drop frames. And on some SATA drives, you may drop frames when they’re only 50-60% full.
