  • Uncompressed HDV Export Problems

I’m wokring with HDV720p24 video and I’m trying to UpRes to HDV1080p24 for Color Correction, and I can’t seem to get a clean Uncompressed file that will even play on my computer. Let alone a 720p uncompressed file to play on my computer. Is it just that the file is too large to play on my slower G5 or is something actually wrong with the conversion? When I play the file the Music continues to play but the video stops, and it’s happening at the Color Correction house as well? Is there something I’m not getting in the UpRes, or are my sequence Settings and export settings all messed up?

Anyone ever have this problem before?

Upconverting 720p HDV to 1080p HDV? Why? Gets you next to nothing. Your color space is still 4;2:0, and all you did was make the picture bigger.

What is recommended is to upconvert to 10-bit UNCOMPRESSED HD…not HDV. Because you are then going into a superior color space. 720p HDV to 1080p HDV gets you nothing.

You need a very fast RAID array of hard drives to play back uncompressed HD. It is far more demanding that HDV. A 5 drive SATA Raid will do it, like the S2VR HD from CalDigit or the 500P from Sonnet.

Thanks man, I’m ALL sorts of New to HD so I am really sort of just going at it blind.

I’m really not sure why the Color House wants it in 1080HDV, I thought the same thing that it was no better just a bigger picture. But that’s what they asked for.

    Thanks again for the help.

Are you sure that they asked for 1080 HDV, and not 1080 HD? I’ve spoken to a large number of labs in the last year, and they all seem to distinguish between HDV and “real HD”.

You could be right. . . If that’s the case then I can’t do it on my computer anyway, I don;t have the processing power.

    Thanks!
