    hi gang…

    we are using fcp4.5 hd
    dual 2 ghz macs
with firmtek’s sata drives for storage
also a dsr-11 for capture and playback

the problem we keep having is while we are capturing the footage
the video keeps stopping for a frame or two and than picking up
and it keeps happening at random spots.

i actually took final cut completely off and reinstalled
    still happening
    changed the wires…no luck

any suggestions or has this happened to anyone ?

    thanks
    cowland

Have you monitored the tape to be sure it’s not a bad tape? Have you tried capturing to an internal hard drive?

How are your drives formatted, and how full are they?

the drives are formatted max os extended

    the tapes are fine
and the drive we have has 42 gb’s left.

the weird part is this just started happening so i’m kinds at a loss
but it’s messing up our work flow that’s for sure

and we didn’t do anything new to anything !!!

[arty] “and the drive we have has 42 gb’s left.”

out of how many GB? If your drives are more than 75% full, you can expect to drop frames. And on some SATA drives, you may drop frames when they’re only 50-60% full.

    really ?
    they are 160 gb drives

a 50 % full drive could cause drops ? i’ll have to readjust my workflow than !

You didn’t just recently upgrade to OS 10.4.9 did you?
10.4.9 and FCP 4.5 don’t play well together.
I did that and it really messed me up on capturing.
I figured out (from this forum) that the fix was to hide the FCP Documents folder (Capture scratch) from Spotlight. in the spotlight system preference pane, click on privacy and add your FCP documents foler. The problem was fixed for me after that.

If you didn’t upgrade to 10.4.9 then please disregard.
Thank you and have a great day.
