WYSIWYG can be done geat using Vegas, Premiere and many other PC programs as you can see. I can get a Decklink card or make use of the Video card’s HDMI port to view my edits on an NTSC monitor.
I am hip to the Avid RAID systems. I used to edit on a Media Composer. For the average freelance artist my system works great and you know it. The external RAID systems would be nice but most freelance FCP editors and Premiere editors do not even have an NTSC monitor let alone invest in an external RAID system.
Please post a video of your great editing system. I want to see it and I think others might as well. I expect to see an external RAID and an NTSC monitor for client previews. We can all speak about what ILM and Pixar use but most of us here have a limited budget.

Pro Res? I would like to think that FCP can edit native HDV clips. Premiere Pro can do it with ease. The files stay small because there is no transcoding to an intermediate codec. Should files become large on the PC side storage is a non issue.

One method:
If you right click on the rectangle I think you should get options to have it (bezier line) filled or hollow.Another Method:
For fill you would set the opacity to 0% and the inner or out stroke to 100%. You should have a border. You will have to fine tune it to fit the PIP. I use a nice NTSC monitor when doing this as opposed to a 1/8 size VGA screen. Your best bet is to use a new sequence for the PIP with a border. -

You can do it but you are not thinking correctly (fill ?). You have to make use of transparency and the ever so popular stroke (inner or outer).
Give it a whirl.

You can use the Adobe titler to make borders for your PIPs complete with images and texure maps.

I disagree. You can edit native AVCHD at full frame rate and full resolution using PP CS4. You can cut, paste and trim with a cheap $600.00 PC but you can not add effects. I would like to think that a Dual Quad Mac Pro would allow for CC and transitions of native AVCHD. I am sure a Dual Quad PC could. When I was in film school back in 1994 our video editing system allowed for simple A/B editing from deck to deck and the Steenbeck was even harder to use. Cutting and pasting? Try cutting and splicing.

If your a film student using AVCHD a lot then PP CS4 might be your best option. That is not to say it is better than FCP but rather PP CS4 might work better with your equipment.

What can DoStudio do that Encore can not? Edius had very Basic DVD authoring but I don’t consider Encore to be basic. Please inform me of what I am missing. Educate me please.

I had a 1.5 hour project that played fine. If I start to add effects it can bog down. Do you add effects as you edit? I add them at the very end with AVCHD projects.
