What can I say Walter? If it work use it.
I myself made the switch from Edius to CS4. I wanted the integration of the Adobe products. Edius is a great program but it can not compete with the CS4 package. I am not sure most editors will share in your point of view about using DoStudio. I guess the sales of FCS will tell the complete story. Comparing FCS at $999.99 to the CS4 Production Premium is not a fair comparison if you must buy more software.

Why would you switch from CS4 to FCS? I used to use Edius but switched to CS4 because of the integration between the CS4 programs. I like the fact the the GUI is the same for Sound Booth, AE, Encore etc.
There is nothing wrong with FCS or CS4. The choice would have to depend on your needs (video, audio, web graphic art). You could jump ship the FCS now but will you jump back to Adobe when CS5 ships?
What is making you want to jump ship?

Walter,
Final Cut Studio implies that it is a complete solution (including Blu-Ray authoring). My bad I guess.
-
Matt Gerard,
I doubt many user will jump ship to Adobe. I agree there are work arounds but what if Encore, DoStudio and Vegas did not exist? Like I said it is 2009 and Blu-Ray is here.
I do agree to some extent with what you wrote because FCS does work. I just don’t think bashing Adobe is wise. I know your were not bashing Adobe.
This thread would be valid if it were 2007 but Blu Ray has won the HD war and there are really no excuses for Apple. Every FCS user should be able to admit that. I know some can but others can not. I am sorry if I offended anyone but other programs have indeed had Blu-Ray support for years. It can be done.

I find this post or thread as well as many other post to be very odd. Why wouldn’t you folks expect Blu-Ray? I admit you can find another solution but shouldn’t FCS offer Blu-Ray?
What if there were no other otions for Blu-Ray. Pretend CS4, Vegas and DoStudio did not exist. It is 2009 not 1999. HD is indeed here to stay.

Dennis Radeke,
I agree. I think that is another plus for Avid and Adobe. They do indeed work on both Mac and PC.
I find the threads that cut down Adobe CS4 to be chidlish. Folks, forget CS4 even existed. Why wouldn’t you want or even expect Blu-Ray support? HD is indeed here. It is 2009 not 1999. FCS should be a complete package form start to finish.
If you folks like FCS that is OK but if it has a few short commings be honest about them rather than bashing Adobe. Bashing Adobe will not make FSC any better.

I may not understand the situation 100%.
As mentioned it seems as though you could drop all the footage in the timeline and burn a DVD with the timecode. The client could then give you a shot sheet on paper.

You are correct my friend. I missed that part.

You can edit to an NTSC monitor using a DV converter box. Your editing session will be OK for the most part except fast motion graphics might look a tad bit jerky because the DV converter will only be 720X480 and not true HD even on an HD monitor. It will still be better than just using a VGA/Computer screen.
I agree with Shane Ross. For the msot part if CC is not and issue you could get an HD Plasma monitor from Best Buy. In that case a Decklink card or AJA card might come in handy for motion graphics since it will allow for true HD resultion.
An HD monitor and Decklink card are next on my list. I just started editing HD (HDV & AVCHD) about 3 months ago. Sad but true the days of DV-25 editing are a thing of the past.

You can edit native AVCDH in PP CS4 to some extent. You can cut trim and paste with ease usign a cheap 2.66 GHZ Quad Core but you can not add effects. If you do cuts only editing then PP CS4 should work OK with native AVCHD. I am not bragging aout my system. Infact I state that it only costed $600.00. I am using a cheap Nvidia 9400GT and a 2.66 GHZ Quad Core.
