You can edit to an NTSC monitor using a DV converter box. Your editing session will be OK for the most part except fast motion graphics might look a tad bit jerky because the DV converter will only be 720X480 and not true HD even on an HD monitor. It will still be better than just using a VGA/Computer screen.

I agree with Shane Ross. For the msot part if CC is not and issue you could get an HD Plasma monitor from Best Buy. In that case a Decklink card or AJA card might come in handy for motion graphics since it will allow for true HD resultion.

An HD monitor and Decklink card are next on my list. I just started editing HD (HDV & AVCHD) about 3 months ago. Sad but true the days of DV-25 editing are a thing of the past.

I would highly recommend Panasonic’s professional line of Plasmas. We have used 37″, 42″ and the 50″, and they work great, and the color is pretty accurate. I like the option of putting in cards for HD/SDI. The drawback is that it doesn’t have a tuner, so you cant sit around watching TV.

We don’t have a ton of room…seems that the LED’s and plasma’s only come in 40 and above. I was thinking more around 20-30″

Whether you’re doing color correction or not, you still want a good quality broadcast monitor. Have you looked at the FSI 1760W? Only $2,495 and it’s a fully accurate broadcast and film color grade monitor.

If you’re looking for a “confidence” monitor, then you’re talking broadcast quality and accuracy. Can’t recommend FSI enough. We have the 1760W and 2450W’s in our shop. Lowest priced, completely accurate monitors I’ve ever seen.
