One last question.
Does anyone know if the Dell 2408WFP does 1:1 scaling? -
Ok Thanks.
I’m getting closer to making sense of my edit station config.

I’ve been following the Monitor threads for about a month now and this seems to be the consensus with regard to LCD’s.
– For best value for the money, the JVC DT-V24L3DU is it at $3500 (B&H)
– For best value (non-color grading) the Dell 2408WFP is it at around $850 (street).
That seems to be it for high value LCD’s. Word has it that the Panasonic LCD that’s a mainstay of color grading LCD’s has more signal latency (lag) that the JVC.
My question is this. In a scenario where the edit station already has one 23″ ACD or Dell 2408, can the JVC DT-V24L3DU be used as the main editing window then used for color grading or is a three screen (2 edit and 1 Color grading) the only viable option? -
Not to sound disrespectful but you sound a bit like my buddies in the Early 90’s, lamenting the diminution of vinyl records! Some still swear vinyl LP’s in the right turntable is ‘warmer’ sweeter etc. But really- progress marches onwards. I’m 52 me self so- not a pip sqeak 😉

I can’t believe that after 15 years with Seagate I’m jumping ship.
Oh well. -

Here’s an interesting response I received from my supplier. OWC.NOTE that OWC reduced the price on the 7200.111TB barracudas by 50%. This means that OWC is perfectly willing to sell drives with failure issues. My next post will include guerrilla strategies to teahc Seagate and OWC some manners.——-
“At this time we have not received any new firmware updates from Seagate. Once we do receive the updated firmware it will take us 1 to 2 weeks to verify that the firmware update will fix the issue. Until that time we cannot offer you a firmware update and the firmware update Seagate sent you can only be applied on a PC.

I take it it’s a Windows only issue? No mention of a Mac Fix

My fault. I didn’t read the original post carefully enough.
Sorry about that. -
Not sure why you would need to convert from YUV to RGB so as to use Photoshop. Can’t you simply import files to Photoshop in LAB color space? That should preserve your colors when you export back out to Final Cut, unless FC doesn’t recognize LAB color space. Just a thought as I only edit color in LAB in photoshop. This gives me the best finesse of color control & Gamma so that I can convert to CMYK for pre-press or RGB for Web.Never done the round trip thing to Final Cut though.

For what it’s worth- I’ll draw on my real job, Usability & Human Factors and allude to one of Jakob Nielsens 10 original heuristics,
#6 “Recognition rather than recall”
If the UI has stood the test of time and is effective, efficient and satisfactory, then don’t cause a revolution in re-training so as to extract a small & less than revolutionary improvement in workflow.
I’ve used & fixed some of the worst UI’s on the planet (anyone remember the original Debabelizer?) FCP was pretty darn good right from V1.0
Now gradual and logical changes have occurred in the form of simplified spin-offs (FCE) so kudos to Apple for taking a non-invasive approach to UI options
I’ll tell you this though- ALL software has to become more iMovie HD6 like so we can all spend more time on vacation and less time wading through tomes of manuals
