  • One of the ‘problems’ is that several members here have vested interests in companies that either market SW or HW for off the shelf RAID. To protect their interests, there’s a tendency to not do the brilliant thing that you are suggesting, because it would empower the end user customer.
We can’t have that now can we?

I’m still refining things, and I’m a neophyte that’s learned a lot from the Pros on this subforum.
    – I own an H4N and I also own FCS2 with Soundtrack pro as part of the bundle
All things being equal, I found the the H4N functions as an excellent MIDI interface but for some reason, I get far cleaner and richer recording when passing through and capturing directly to my Mac rather than recording directly to the H4N, even at high bitrates. No clue why that is. Anyway, in a pinch the H4N recordings are great on location. Way easier than setting up a complex field recorder.
I do use a modified Harlan Hogan Portabooth- works well!

Shane. Why RAID 5 and not RAID 6? Is the likelihood of a two drive failure that rare?

I also wonder if Flash might not be a decent tool? It is after all, a 2-D project.

Thanks for that Videomaker tutorial. I don’t own AE, but I may have to break down and get it, unless I can figure out a way to accomplish the reveal in Motion or a FCP plugin. Time to call my friend Bill at StageTools.

Thanks for that advice! I’ll take it and see where I go. I posted some more demos on my sight. Sound engineering (during and in post) seem to make a big difference, and I’m getting better at it. Still. I’m no star and don’t actually aspire to be one. Just do some simple narrations to support my video footage at times. I own the Producer’s Handy Dandy and of course, thousands of great voices on the various VO sites suggest I should not quit my day job.

I couldn’t stop laughing- your response is so true and phrased with such rapier wit! Something that I find refreshing in all to serious discussions.
I’m a newbie that also happens to realize that it’s the training, the voice you’re born with plus flawless enunciation and diction to mention just a few important recipe ingredients.I also cook and yes, it’s not in the fungi, it’s the experience that makes the big difference; but ingredients’ quality does matter, in cuisine as much as in technology.

So I’m either going to have to concede that either I’m not gonna be the Mediterranean’s answer to Don La Fontaine or my engineering capability needs help or both A & B are true. I am noticing this though. My cheapo Zoom H2 stuck in my face while clowning around sounded better that all the mic isolation and pre-amps that I now deal with. Go figure.
Your xpert critiques are always welcome. Here’s my first couple of Demos. Second set I did for PwC Consulting 8 years ago, sick with a fever and never having done any narration- ever before.
Don’t be gentle on me- just hit me with your xpert feedback.
    Thanks

August 31, 2009 at 1:31 pm in reply to: Repository of Business & Legal Forms

    Good point Timothy
So the IA could look like this:
Repository of Business & Legal Forms
    > Sort By Country
    > Sort By State
    > Sort By Domain (Music,Video, Stills, Graphics)
    > Sort By Year
We could start a kitty and collect some funds to pay a stipend to a budding young lawyer interested in doing some good.
I don’t have time for more Knowledge Warehousing projects, but I’ll gladly pay into a fund to start a business & legal forms one on the Cow.

Yes Bob.Your point is well made- borne out in this follow up article in DV “The Ultimate DIY RAID – UPDATED”
By Ned Soltz, January 23, 2009- somewhat ‘fresher’ than the LifeZero article (which mysteriously went dead dead last Winter)
    https://www.dv.com/article/45378
Note especially the change in bus preference (is that the correct term?) from SATA to SAS.
Ned Soltz echoes your words BUT that still doesn’t stop him from publishing the article and no doubt- there must be SOME DIY That duplicates the so called ” Bullet Proof” CRM that CalDigit offers? Surely?
