Go to a sequence, select the first image, check image sequence and import.
Make sure Indeterminate Media Timebase in Preferences (Media) is set to the same framerate as your image sequence
Dont know a way to do this in a batch.

If you have Snap (S) enabled and you want to drop a clip to that marker a black vertical line will appear.

You probably used a codec for the avi’s Premiere is not to fond of.
1 hour of DV-avi is about 13 gig.
