Footage looks fine in Quicktime, footage becomes stretched in Adobe
Hey guys. This may not even specifically be a Premiere Pro issue. I am just trying to figure this out. I have footage that, when I look at the specific .mov file information, says it is 720×486. When I import it into Premiere it looks stretched and when I export it, it also looks stretched. I’ve tried creating sequences that are exactly 720×486 and I’ve tried importing it at exactly 720×486 and it still looks stretched. Here is a picture to illustrate.
How do I view and export it the same in premiere as I see it play in Quicktime?

Looks like you have some anamorphic sd footage.
right click the imported file, interpret footage.
set pixel ratio from 1.0 to 1.2
It will letterbox it in a 4×3 (720×486) sequence.
or export it with media encoder set that way or leave it as is the way
you already have it now but change the pixel ratio for 1.2 on the export screen.I’d recommend exporting it as 853×486 with a pixel ratio of 1.0 if this is
for youtube or vimeo, they don’t usually interpret the pixels properly -
It is possible that Adobe is representing the video correctly. QuickTime does not recognize rectangular pixels and displays everything as 1:1. The 720 width is standard with rectangular pixels in both widescreen and 4:3 formats, but is not used as often with square pixels.

What if you set the monitors in Premiere to fit instead of 100%.

@Chris – Thanks Chris. That worked and at least solves the problem of viewing it as it was probably meant to be viewed. I will also export with the same settings.
@Ivan – You are probably right. I think I will just both view it and export it at 1.2:1 ratio.
@Ann – It looks exactly the same. I only had it on 100% so that people would not suggest I put it to 100% had I shown it at Fit.
