Why not dub the XDCAM footage to HDCAM @23.98 and then use the HDCAM deck to add pulldown uppon capture?

My question is: is there beta testing at Apple? Real beta testing with real editor editing real video.

How come they update FCP with so much obvious bugs like this one? It seems to me FCp is no more made for real world editing…

I don’t even know which version of FCP would run best for me, as they all have some important bug in them. Should we all uninstall Studio 2 and get back to 5.1.4? (which is the last “ok” version that I remember of…)

and thanks for confirming that I’m not insane and that the dreaded snapping button comes back whenever it feels to.

[david bogie] “The whole issue smacks of “What the hell were they thinking?” and “Who makes the decisions on this stuff?” What meeting was held where a lobbying effort was mounted to impose this lame feature on the rest of us without an option to turn it off? What bonehead product manager looked at it in action and said, “Hey, this is GREAT idea! Everyone is gonna LOVE it!” ?”

A while ago there was a bug when you changed the keyboard in the keyboard input menu. The problem arises when you change while FCP is open. On my computer it prevented any “command-something” functions… not just command-Z.

  • [Craig Seeman] “If you compressed in Compressor, Toast is compressing again. Toast will handle TS folders with VOB in them without further compression but you’re not going to get that out of Comressor.”

You can feed a m2v + aiff or ac3 directly into Toast. It will not recompress, it will only multiplex it and burn.

Btw, in my experience Compressor always had horrible quality. Bitvice is quite expensive and slow but will get you the best quality out there.

I have the service manual which gives you all the “secret” functions to calibrate this monitor, if you are insterested. Where I work we have the 21″ version and a while ago, when the main board failed (cost about 800$ !), we had to recalibrate it ourselves because the repair guy didn’t bother calibrate it…

timewrap effects must be at the root of the effect stack, so you must step in and then add the fluid film effect.

What I do to get a “richier” look make an S curve in the Master section of the curve tab to boost the contrast while retaining most of the detail, and then boost saturation a biit to. If the color temperature and skin tone isn’t right, you should fix it too.

I then add a soft focus-like effect using the Paint Effect. I’m not at the job so I can’t send you a bin with the effects but it’s pretty simple:
You add the Paint Effect over the Color Correction, drag a square taht covers the whole screen, switch the mode to Blur and lower the effect strenght to something like 17. I don’t know why, but the blur mode in the paint effects is more like a glow and less like a typical box blur. This is pretty good at smoothing the harshness of video.

    Good luck

  • Select all your clips and use the Batch Import function in the Clip menu.

  • I work on a first generation G5 that did the same thing a few weeks ago. It would not boot, displaying a question mark. When booted on the Mac OS CD, Disk Utils would say “Error: could not complete underlying task on exit” or somethin along those lines. I didn’t bother running diskwarrioir on it because it was behaving oddly (slow seeks, hangs, etc) before stopping.

That drive was a maxtor “diamond max plus 9” drive. I had many other of those diamond max 9 drives fail on me so if you happen to be using one of those, I woudn’t be surprised it failed.

So I can only conlcude that this is a design flaw of this deck. Or then it’s broken. I realized that if the timecode characters are sync and not the picture, it’s not a sync problem… the deck actually rolls the picture itself.

I’ll have to stick to my actual workflow which requires to use a complex setup of looping through 3 decks in order to accomplish the job. oh well !
