Cool Dan !
brilliant..
I would like to use that as well with some of the other characters with audio amplitude, are there any adjustments to be made to this expression and if so how?
please thanks in advance.
Thanks for all your help

Thanks..
I think the problem was one of having to nest the comp before tracking and then of also having to set the tracking to RGB. I have not used tracking much and I think spending more time on tutorials will not be time wasted.
Thanks Dave.

Also Draft 3D is not activated either in any of the cases.
It seems to be to do with bringing in another 3D nested comp and where ever that comp is the 3D disappears, almost as if it contra undoes the 3d settings for shadows of other layers.
If I turn on and off collapse transformations that makes a difference, but not right. What is the rule for nested comps 3D and 3D shadows?
Thanks

Hi..
Just to be clear on this… If I have 2 identical projects, each with a main comp and a nested com. .. and no interlinking references.
Import both, and if I open as a timeline, the main comp from only one of these, AE will use the same performance as if I opened each of the projects separately as individual projects.
If I leave open one of the main comps and then open the other main comp in the timeline as well, does this reduce the performance, even if there are no nested comps relevant to the other projects main comp.
My sources are all image sequences taga or png (uncompressed with alpha) HD.
You may well have answered this in the first response but just confirming I understand correctly as testing is difficult, as it is already slow and heavy, and I do want to combine large projects.
Thanks a bunch for this help with my eco animations.

To get around my problem I export as tagas, then I can render say… 100 at a time… If its really heavy… keep going till the whole sequence is finished.
I get there in the end then composite in fcp or premier.

I was delighted when this was posted, but…..
I cant get this to work… is it not available on AE CS3?
Do you mean the drop down twirly triangle at the top right of each actual composition panel? Because I cant find “new comp viewer” in this menu.

“your ram is being eatin by something”
I have the same problem with many renders, some days its fine. Starts renders at say 9 mins, if I do it again 37 mins, then 3 hours. I restart the computer before each render. Open only AE. Is it possible to find out what is “eatin the ram?” Activity manager shows full use.
Even purging before a render, does not seem to help much, except with the first 1000 frames or so, but using the “secret” preference (hold shift when clicking the pref general tab and getting another pref) and purging every 15 frames, you can change this, is a little better
tutorial for this AE workflow tips no 2 if you have not seen it.

Hi…
I’m no expert, but I use keylight a lot, just in case you are doing something odd this was the best tutorial video I found on it.
I also have got into the perhaps unnecessary habit of making my comp background a bright color, so I then know its not black/grey/white. It helps me not to get confused with the black/white status option if I am tired and part of it really has gone transparent.
