[Noah Temple] “However, are you saying that I can put a timecode stamp on in the export menu?”
Yes, it’s under the effects tab along with LUT and watermarking which are new since CC. It can do clip TC or sequence TC; you can also overlay clip name.
[Noah Temple] “I don’t believe I have imported my clips wrong. But I didn’t say how I imported so how do you know I did it wrong? just curious.”
C300 shoots XF format where each folder is a clip that the camera started and stopped. Each clip inside absolutely needs to span to one clip. If it’s not doing that, it was probably dragged in – I’m not aware of any bugs with the C300 and Premiere.

You aren’t importing footage properly.
1. Create new project
2. Open media browser panel
3. navigate to Canon camera folder
4. Media browser will show one thumbnail per clip (not per file)
5. Select all, or select what you need, and right click > import into project
6. Once it’s in your project, select all and ctrl/command+m to bring up export
7. Set your timecode overlay and export settings as needed and hit export.
8. Export will properly Queue in Media Encoder, set your export locations as needed.Media Encoder doesn’t have a media browser panel, so a round trip through Premiere is the only way to handle some spanned formats.

I assume it’s on 2 layers?
Make a selection of the triangle layer (control+click on layer, Win). This creates a section. Selections are layer independent.
I assume you want to flip some of the text white? Duplicate your text layer, change the color to white and then click the mask button to create a mask based on selection. Voila.
Edit: A clipping mask would work a bit better but I fear just understanding it would be a bit on the advanced side.

First thing I’d do is throw it in a 29.97i timeline Upper first (I assume it’s HD) and then in the program monitor show upper field and lower field just to make sure the field order in the file is correct.
At this point, even if you’re setting it to 3:2 simple pulldown and it’s not behaving correctly then I’d worry about field order.

[Jay Thomas] “The extra volume FX is also an interesting approach, but would that then translate over in an OMF? My workflow is to send and OMF with my mix levels.”
Oof, I suggest testing it then; that didn’t cross my mind. I wouldn’t be surprised if Volume and Pan/Balance are two audio effects that get some kind of priority in Premiere for that sort of thing, but I could also be wildly off base about it.

September 16, 2014 at 7:50 am in reply to: Making a DCP in Premiere- good idea or send it out?Send it out.
Premiere’s DCP support (thanks to some limited licensing with Wraptor) is 2k, 24fps only with stereo or 5.1 sound. Depending on the type of festival, stereo isn’t an accepted mix format and minimum is LCR (3.0) which Wraptor cannot export.
An LCR mix can be extracted from a stereo mix, it just has to do with how it’s channel separated. Shouldn’t add much frustration to audio mixing/finishing if you’re not planning on a surround mix.
Also be aware that some festivals will need you to master onto server ready hard drives. If you don’t know Linux then a finishing house will have to format the drive for you and place the files correctly.
In other words, it’s a specialized delivery method so don’t chance it when the price to master it to DCP is a marginal part of most budgets.

September 16, 2014 at 7:42 am in reply to: Black magic at pro res 422HQ shot in film mode.. To LUT or not to LUT?Dennis is right on, but to expand a bit on his answer a LUT is not a requirement for any workflow.
The conversion LUTs to take camera log to something with more reasonable contrast is that vendor’s “best guess average scenario”. The workflow in this case is either slap it on because you don’t have time to color grade or as a temp look until grading.
https://www.reddit.com/r/editors/comments/2fhjjc/what_is_a_lut_what_is_it_used_for/ck9at47 sums up my general feelings about LUTs in workflows; I answered a similar question on Reddit recently.

Last time I tested, if you add a 29.97i clip to a 23.976p or 24p then Premiere will reverse the pull down, guessing simple 3:2 pulldown.
If the clip looks wonky, then you can right click > interpret footage and set it to advanced pulldown or have it guess.
It may have functioned differently in previous versions but Premiere has been quite good in recent years about making footage conforming seamless until you go in and tweak clip parameters.

September 16, 2014 at 7:03 am in reply to: Photoshop type tool measurement is different than the ruler measurement?[Leslie King] ” it wasn’t always like this”
Er, nope. I’m going to have to disagree, it has to do with cell height/point size vs glyph height and I checked back on Photoshop CS 5.5. If it use to work differently then it must have done so at a point beyond my recent memory.
72pt Aral Black ‘X’ is ~51.5 points high. If I type it’s equivalent of ~18mm into the type size box to create a second X then Photoshop insta-converts to ~51.5 points, ok great. Type the letter and it’s smaller than the first. Photoshop is properly converting mm to points but, again, a letter rarely takes full height.
https://www.thomasphinney.com/2011/03/point-size/
I checked all type related options and menus, no options related.
