Some Hue/Saturation layers to control saturation, a curves layer to add contrast, and a vibrance layer to bring the whole image back up.

Not all glyphs take up full point height, it’s a part of font design to deal with descenders, ascenders, and other characters.
You’ll just have to scale it manually with the transform command.

[stan welks] “1. Does it make a difference if you boost the saturation for the Master prior to adjusting the individual colors like reds, and greens? Does the order matter if you do the reds and greens first and then the master?”
It doesn’t matter, Photoshop does all adjustments non-destructively when using adjustment layers. If you have a value of 95% saturation and another at 100% and up the saturation to where you clip both values to 100% and add a second adjustment layer to bring it back down then the two values will maintain their difference. Once you apply/flatten the adjustment do you have to be aware of it.
[stan welks] “2. If I select the Reds drop down in the Hue/Saturation adjustment layer and use the eyedropper to select just a pink object to use for my saturation boost, will it leave the reds in a person’s skin alone? Is this the idea about how it’s supposed to work?”
The Hue/Saturation adjustment only qualifies (selects) colors based off of hue. If the hue you select is, or close to, that of your skintone regardless of saturation or lightness, then you’ll need to mask the skin so it’s unaffected. There are methods for creating masks based on saturation and lightness.

No, submixes aren’t considered an independent item you can place in the media library. You’re better off exporting that sequence (with other tracks muted as appropriate) as a wav file to use throughout the project.

September 15, 2014 at 8:38 am in reply to: Do I need to have a red Rocket card to run r3d files in real time?[Myles Conti] ” On a new Mac Pro the Scarlet footage was rendering at real time (while applying grade), whereas the Dragon footage was rendering between 11-15 fps (depending on the complexity of the grade).”
Interesting, I wonder if Resolve has integrated the GPU acceleration. Those numbers would sound about right on a dual GPU system if so.
edit: Just looked it up on Google, they added support in 10.1.3 so it looks like GPU support is trickling into other apps; I guess that’s what I’ve missed while being on back-to-back shoots.
Not yet in Premiere so far as I can tell. Premiere and Speedgrade are very good about their quality selection directly controlling debayering quality though. Speedgrade also applies its looks via the GPU shader which is why you (Miles) are seeing good performance there on the new Mac.

How is the “cloud” portion being disabled? Adobe apps don’t rely on connectivity for functionality. Sounds like the Creative Cloud manager app might be triggering some sort of firewall issue; if it’s reading a corrupt file, it might not be receiving all the data packets over the network. Have you had IT test it by disabling the firewall locally or over the fiber network?

September 15, 2014 at 6:55 am in reply to: Sequence Color Settings: Depth Bits per Channel[Samantha Morey] “I am following a tutorial to create digital negative”
Wut? The fact that this tutorial calls it a “digital negative” makes me question the validity of the information and technique.
[Samantha Morey] “When getting a clip ready for color grading you need at least 16 bits per channel usually.”
You’ve been misinformed, but that’s fine. Besides the bit depth at the capture stage being the limiting factor (IIRC the majority of cameras that spit out any type of RAW file are 10-12bits of color fidelity), the most popular finishing image format, DPX, is commonly limited to 10bits. Online quality intermediate codecs like ProRes4444 or DNxHD 175x are also 10bit limited.
Premiere’s “maximum bit depth” breaks down as follows:
24bit: RGB x 8bits
32bits: RGBA x 8 bits
48bits: RGB x 16bits
64bits: RGBA x 16bitsWhile you can process at 16bits, and some of Premiere’s effects and transitions are processed in 32bit floating point, know that it’ll be truncated to 10bits in the majority of cases. The only >10bit format Premiere will export is a TIFF sequence.
“Maximum Render Quality” is a better scaling algorithm. If you don’t scale any of your clips, you won’t notice a difference.

Clear all timeline renders then set the project to use Mercury CPU mode only. If the issue clears up, it’s your GPU, could be time to update/rollback drivers.
Have you tried a title with a different font? Another thing just to make sure there is no funkiness there too.

September 15, 2014 at 6:23 am in reply to: Do I need to have a red Rocket card to run r3d files in real time?As of now, I don’t believe the RED SDK used in Premiere allows for GPU debayering – I’m not even sure if the SDK includes it as it seems only Redcine supports it.
In other words, GPUs won’t add much if anything in terms of full debayer quality playback/export in Premiere.
Red Rocket supports the One, Epic, and Scarlet. The Red Rocket X is needed to support Epic Dragon.
A modern system can playback at 1/4~1/8th quality reliably, but you’ll feel the pain during export.

Effects>Audio Effects>Volume. Simply add this to a clip and it adds another point of volume adjustment. No reason to be fussing with keyframes if all you want to do us up overall level by a few db; it’s basically non-destructive, no matter if you do it as an effect, keyframe, or submix.
[Jay Thomas] “If Premiere allows me to select multiple keyframes, what can I then do with them? And is one of the things I can do with them adjust them together, which is the original quest?”
Sure, once they’re selected, click+hold and then you can drag up and down
