September 15, 2014 at 6:14 am in reply to: Media browser not pulling all .mts files in from folderI haven’t used an AVCHD camera in a while, but in my estimation Media Browser is behaving as intended. It’s probably showing you clips, not files, as many cameras are designed to split/span clips over 2gb or 4gb chunks (a limitation of the filesystem on the camera media). If you look at the files themselves and notice a few hitting those limits, then this is exactly the reason.

Menu > Sequence > Render Audio
If that isn’t a solution then are you going through an output card like an Aja or Blackmagic? They routinely are the cause to playback delay.

If you’re experience added brightness with overlay mode then the grey base of your grain files are not truly 50% gray (#808080). Overlay isn’t a proprietary blending mode, and should work the same in any program where it’s available. Barring any existence of a gamma shift (if they’re MOV files) the best you can do is simply compensate with a correction to back down the brightness.

If you reference your previous post and also search Google for this issue, you’ll find that it is a Firewire driver issue, not exclusive to the use of Premiere.
I would strongly suggest contacting JVC directly for a solution, in lieu of that then get an XP machine where you know the drivers have worked or ask a rental house for a different deck.
Alternately, you could use something like a Blackmagic Decklink SDI card, hook it up to your deck via SDI and and capture with Blackmagic’s recording software. I haven’t done it personally but perhaps the RC-422 connector will afford you better deck control as well.

April 24, 2014 at 9:35 pm in reply to: CS6 Multi-Format Workflow (RED 4K, Super-16mm, iPhone, VHS)1) Edit in the size of your known delivery format: 2K. There is zero advantage to editing in 4K and upscaling most of your footage only to downscale it again – both moves are destructive to image detail.
2) For VHS, just drop it into the timeline. Premiere will automatically deinterlace (as long as the digital capture from VHS is correctly set as interlaced) and it will resample the frame rate. If this automation produces unsatisfatory results then you can pre-conform your material by deinterlacing and/or retiming it with any number of plugins and approaches.
3) As for the iphone… I’m still experimenting myself. These devices tend to be variable frame rate and I haven’t invested time to figure out a proper workflow just yet.

There needs to be a clean plate under your footage. Assuming the camera is locked off then it’s a frame of video without your actor.

[Brian Cheng] “So my Premiere Pro CC is running really slow when I’m viewing a After Effects dynamic linked footage.”
This is unavoidable – dynamically linked footage will need to be preview rendered in the majority of cases, even if you were running hardware acceleration.
[Brian Cheng] ”
I then go to About This Mac, and found out that my graphics card is called Intel HD Graphics 4000.”You do not have a compatible GPU so you’ll be unable to use hardware acceleration. Hardware acceleration is available for some nVidia (CUDA) and ATI (OpenCL) graphics cards.

In the media bin, in the searchbox just type “offline” and it should filter out all offline clips. “Video”, “Still”, “Audio”, “Sequence”, “Title” are all also keywords, and the search box will also search metadata contents. Pretty powerful.

April 19, 2014 at 5:39 am in reply to: Editings Got Messed After Rendering Effects In to OutFollow each step, restart Premiere, and check for results. If the issue isn’t fixed then try the next step.
1) Menu > Sequence >Delete Render Files
2) Clear media cache
3) Close Premiere and hold shift while restarting
4) reinstall nvidia video drivers if you’re using an nvidia GPU.

I would check with some mac people but the thunderbolt->fw800 adapter is one way conversion only. FW800 device to thunderbolt computer port. You might be putting the cart before the horse.
