“Well, since the project file you send from the “A” station to the “B” station is connected to .mov files, you need to import all of the footage on the B station to match that of the A station… i.e, batch import it all on the B station just as you did on the A station. So the files on each really do match each other exactly.”
First of all thanks for your reply Jerry – our problem is is that there seems to be no real way to do a batch import of xdcam files (mp4 files) – all of our paths are the same, but since FCP is looking for .mov files, there seems to be no easy way for me to import all of the .mp4 files that my partner used except for doing it manually one by one. I then have to literally relink the clips in the fcp browser to the new clips (now .mov files) i’ve just imported. This process seems insane, and that’s why i’m asking if i’m missing something here – something as simple as a batch import of all the master clips in the project.
anyone?
thanks!

June 1, 2010 at 1:19 pm in reply to: quicktime to avi mpeg streamclip delivers black screen – what gives? Thanks for the advice, especially the links to the plug-ins. Quicktime (on my mac) plays back the avi file, but what it plays back is a black screen, if that makes sense. There definitely seems to be an encoding issue with mpeg streamclip. But now my question is, if I have to convert from quicktime to avi on my mac, what codec is the best to use? I’m especially thinking about if it’s not possible to install codecs on the window’s machine (i.e. really last minute…)
thanks!

May 28, 2010 at 8:57 am in reply to: quicktime to avi mpeg streamclip delivers black screen – what gives?Hi,
thanks, i did read through that thread but it didn’t really answer my question. I’d like to know what codec to use to create an avi that could be played by most windows machines. I actually realized that this file was going to be played on a lcd monitor and then i really started to wonder what codec would be used. any suggestions? and then what program to use – mpeg streamclip? thanks! -

was too scared to click the pause button, when i did i realized it told me that i would lose my render time. in reality i knew this, but i didn’t know i’d be told before i willingly scrap everything…

thanks so much for that! it puts me at ease now 🙂 i was suspecting that, but had no confirmation.

I am still not sure what sequence settings to use for my hdv 720p25 clips. like i said before, the browser says that the frame size is 1280×1080 but then where does the 1280×720 come in?
help, i don’t get it.

The quicktime export isn’t the problem, and you can export to quicktime with hdv 720p25 with hdvxdv no problem. (i used this because we used it to capture the footage from our jvc hd110 camera)
but now i want to know what my sequence settings need to be so that i don’t have to render the entire thing. the weirdest thing is though, is that in the fcp browser, the frame size it reports for these clips is 1280 x 1080, but when the frame size and aspect ratio are set to 1280×1080 in the sequence settings (compression hdv 720p), it wants to render the entire thing. but when i set the frame size to 1280×720 (HDTV 720p 16:9) and the pixel aspect ratio to square AFTER the clip is already in the timeline, then the red render line disappears, i can play in real time, and the image looks right. but then i drag in another of the clips and then that clip that i just dragged in looks totally stretched – ?
i don’t know what’s going on here.

August 6, 2008 at 10:48 am in reply to: multicam/track editing for multi-channel installation editthat sounds like a great idea – any idea how i go about this?
it’s hdv footage – so hard on the cpu, i’m assuming this would involve a good deal of rendering probably…
