They also work within a range, automatically adding keyframes and adjusting the audio for only the range selected.

I don’t see this myself. The range tool works fine for me on connected clips. And now you can use the range tool to select multiple keyframes which is really helpful.

Once you have keyframes selected, you can use OPT+up or down to nudge the keyframes 1 db without affecting deselected keyframes.

OPT+X will clear any and all ranges on the selected clip. So even if you have multiple ranges on one clip OPT+X will get rid of them.

Don’t worry about expanding or collapsing the clip. I think you’re problem is that you have the full clip selected before you switch view to Favorites. Show All Clips in the viewer. Deselect any range in your full clip by hitting OPT+X. Then switch to Favorites view (CTL+F). Grab all the favorite clips and hit E to drop them into your sequence. It should work.
The problem is that FCPX seems to be remembering previously selected ranges and that isn’t reset when changing to a view like Favorites. It’s kind of unexpected behavior so I’d complain about it on the Feedback Form.

You need to sort your event browser view to Favorites Only (CTL+F).

I guess it depends on the actual look you’re going for. You could duplicate the clip a couple times above the original clip, resize, mask off portions, and put a slight blur on the different “pieces”. It would be much easier to build it as an effect inside Motion that you can just add to a clip. A lot more flexibility and ease of use.

I’m pretty sure that Motion doesn’t recognize smart objects either. Usually if I’m using masks in Photoshop and I need to work in Motion, I’ll stamp the affected layer to a new layer which is rasterized and Motion will read fine. However, this can lead to a complicated workflow if you’re making lots of changes to the original file in PS.
For ease, I’d be tempted in your situation just to use AE (provided you have it of course).

Linear interpolation means that the animation changes a consistent amount between one keyframe and the next with no easing at all. Constant means that there is no animation at all between keyframes. The value remains the same as the first keyframe until it encounters another keyframe at a different value and then the layer “jumps” to the new keyframe value.
In your case, Linear or Constant should both accomplish the same thing between a set of keyframes that are identical in value.

Mavericks AND FCPX 10.1 are two major updates, not one so I wouldn’t update until the project was finished. However I’d probably risk upgrading to 10.0.9.

If you have Motion. You can open the transition in Motion, make changes and save it as a new transition. You can even create a category called, “Favorites” and save them in one place.
If you don’t have Motion, you can still hold OPT down while dragging the transition from one point to another to copy it.

Yeah, it’s a little strange on the surface. Probably because in FCP7, selecting an edit point with the selection tool would default to selecting both sides whereas in X, it defaults to selecting one side or the other. Though from a feature standpoint, things like Join Clips and adding transitions still apply the same way. Glad you’re set. Cheers.
