Well, it may take some time, but if you blade your takes into smaller chunks and then place them on separate angles in the Angle Editor, you can resync them to the recorded audio and bring those sections back in sync. You’ll end up with a lot of angles (which you can merge down to a couple angles per take after sync).
Another method (depending on the amount of drift) could involve adjusting the retiming of the clip by finding a sync point at the beginning of the take and at the end, setting markers for both the take and recorded audio at that point and then dragging the retime until all four markers line up. This method works fine if there’s a consistent drift or if they just sped up the final recording, but can be problematic otherwise.

[Steven Gladstone] “I clicked on some folders and it is importing the footage from within – XDCAM-EX footage, so that is lovely. However, the the folders with audio show up in the drop down of the “event” with the audio inside them, but the folders for the video do not, although the video is being imported, any thoughts?”
When you have footage in the finder that mimics the directory structure of an SD Card, FCPX treats it as such and the “import folders as keyword collections” doesn’t apply. If they are readable QT movies in a folder structure that you organized yourself, then they’ll appear in collections in the interface.

And if you don’t want to read, I did a tutorial on the subject when back when roles first came out. Still applies.

There is an indicator that shows progress. In the center of the application, to the left of the timecode indicator, is a circle that you can click. It brings up the background processes with include importing and exporting files.

Your best option is to keep the final audio separate from the multiclip. FCPX doesn’t allow you to slip the video from the audio in the cut so keeping it separate is you best option since the angles are completely able to be synched.

March 21, 2014 at 10:47 pm in reply to: Replacing the writing on a rotating licence plate – am I on the right lines?Simon, that’s a really great trick. This kind of thing is super helpful to people when working in 3D and you don’t see people show it off much in tutorials.

March 21, 2014 at 10:39 pm in reply to: Replacing 2 objects in a group with 2 layers of a PSD file[Brent Cook] “Is there any way to do what I’m trying to do?”
Yes, and it’s not difficult either. Drop the PSD on top of the clip you want to replace. Then go to the properties tab in the inspector. Down near the bottom is a section called Media (usually it’s hidden). Click show to view it. Make sure that the media is showing your PSD. Below the image well you’ll see a drop down for Layer. Choose the correct layer and it’ll update.
Hope this helps.

With 159 counties (meaning 159 layers), Motion is bound to slow down if they’re all visible at the same time. So what I’d do in this circumstance is create manageable groups of 5-10 layers that I can turn off when I’m finished animating. Here’s what it’d look like:
10 layers of pngs. One png for each of 10 counties. Enclosed in a group called Group 01 (for lack of a better descriptor). Animate the layers, twirl up the group to hide the layers and turn off the group. Total of 16 groups in your layers panel but only one group is on at a time until you’re ready to export. Then turn them all on and render out.

The bracket keys select different edges of edit points even with a transition applied. [ = left edge, ] = right edge, \ = both edges.
It can be difficult to select them with a mouse when a transition’s applied so I either use those shortcuts above, or else it’s pretty easy to go into precision mode (by double-clicking the edit point) and selecting one edge that way.

[James Bayliss-Smith] “1st question is this just plain DVC pro (when we use 25 Mps instead of 50?)”
Yes. DVCPro 25 is just regular DVCPro/DV NTSC codec.
[James Bayliss-Smith] “2nd Q what are the benefits of converting to ProRes 422”
None. Since you’re acquiring DV, your quality will never be better than DV.
