what happen if you just drag the new media atop the the old layer and drop it when you see the curved arrow cursor (indicating a replace media move). It’s another way to replace media. Also, it’s not unusual to have no problems when one project is updated from M3 to M4, but with another there’s all kinds of problems. Updating projects is not a bulletproof procedure.

March 17, 2011 at 10:29 pm in reply to: Making text face fill black to transparent gradientIf you look at the gradient in your 2nd pic, at the top is a small white bar with a single tag on it. That is the opacity bar. Click in the white bar to add a 2nd opacity tag and then your opacity slider will become active.

March 14, 2011 at 5:20 am in reply to: Banding on gradient in FCP from Motion import. Reason?Saying things like, “I tweaked all settings” doesn’t help people who are trying to diagnose your problem without sitting at your computer with your project. In order to be helpful, you need to detail exactly what you’ve done, what you’ve tried in BOTH programs.
After all, what you may think are “all settings” are not all the settings after all. I have had issues with gradients before, and I’ve also been able to create beautiful gradients. Being able to tell what might be going on is an exercise is specificity, not vagueness.
You CAN get good gradients if you’re willing to work through the problem. Don’t give up so easily.

March 13, 2011 at 5:29 pm in reply to: Banding on gradient in FCP from Motion import. Reason? If both projects are the same, why does the still from FCP have a different aspect ratio from the Motion still? It looks to me like they AREN’T the same.
Secondly, in the FCP sequence settings, you need to change the render settings for Motion projects to Best (Normal is default), to ensure the best rendering.
You may also need to change the Motion project settings to 32-bit floating point to get rid of all the banding. Gradient’s can be difficult sometimes.
Finally, what you’re viewing in Motion is a codec independent view of your scene. When you import the file into FCP, the project is force rendered into the codec you chose for your project. XDCam EX is not necessarily a good codec for rendering graphics. I would try rendering it in a prores sequence with the above setting tweak to see if it looks better. I would do this before switching the Motion project to 32-bit (which will add a ton to render time).

Not for the timeline, no. You need to use the slider or scroll bar at the bottom to zoom in on the timeline.

March 13, 2011 at 5:22 am in reply to: Puzzle pice project has delayed frame only on one puzzle pice – fix?You have a corrupt clone. And the timing for it is one frame different from the other puzzle pieces. I was able to fix it by simply re-cloning the drop zone for any puzzle piece that was off video sync (because fixing the timing issue didn’t do anything).
just reclone, and copy the transform of the original, corrupt layer to the new clone and then move the image mask to the new clone. Then delete the old clone.
