Motion is not a 3d modeler which means it can’t create true 3d objects. But it IS a true 3d environment for 2D shapes. And layers DO obey relative XYZ position in 3D space. They only resort to layer order when the group is set to 2D or when a layer’s rasterization forces it.
The OPs particular case is one where layers need to obey XYZ position.

What I would do is remove that behavior and adjust the anchor point of your logo layer so that it matches the anchor point of your circle layer. Then just apply a spin behavior to the logo, or else apply a rate or ramp behavior to your logo’s Y rotation.

Correct. Sounds like you got it. And you’re also correct about a cloned drop zone. If you place a video in the drop zone, then it will automatically appear in the clone.

The difficulty is in the fact that you want to achieve this for a template. Effects inside Motion can’t be applied to layers inside FCP simply by placing the motion project in the timeline over your clip. This is why transparency surrounding lens flares becomes problematic when trying to use them in templates.
The only way I can think of to do this, is to create a drop zone in your template, clone it, mask and blur the clone. Then in FCP you can drop your source clip into the drop zone and it should work.

You should try DV Matte Pro, or Conduit for Motion. I get just as good a key from those as I do from Keylight. The best part being that I don’t have to key in another app. If I’m forced to use Keylight, 9 times out of 10 I’ll just stay in After Effects for the whole thing.

Looks good. It’s hard to tell with the quality of the you tube clip, but he stands out a little to me (aside from the lighting that Stephen already mentioned). I think it’s because I’m seeing haze in the bkg, but not really any on the foreground. Perhaps some light wrap will fix that. What did you use to key him?

I don’t know what you mean by the “red line thing”, but camera movements can be completely custom with keyframes. In addition, you can customize the Motion Path behavior with keyframes as well.

Well, what are your source settings? What are you starting with? I use a preset similar to your first setting (frame controls are typically unnecessary for a you tube upload). I do set the bit rate to between 3000 and 6000 kbs.
However, it matters a little what your Motion settings are as well. What is your frame size and frame rate?
