You’re probably fine because both settings are dealing with a 29.97 frame rate. Where you really run into trouble is if you are scaling UP, or changing frame rate. In those circumstances you really need to just copy the groups to a new project.

They are coded into the program. Motion 4 rebuilt how animated text effects were designed, essentially simplifying it all. Some of the effects transferred over and were remade using the new workflow, others could not be rebuilt and were dropped. Some new ones showed up. It’s really only the text effects that changed.

Both Motion and After Effects are compositing and motion graphics programs. They often get mistaken for 3D programs because that is the graphical world we live in now, but neither one does 3D modeling on its own.
If your boss wants true 3D, he’s gonna have to get off his wallet to give it to you. Blender is open source, so you have access to free 3D, but it doesn’t have integration with AE or Motion so compositing 3D text with other motion graphics can be difficult if there are cameras involved.
Cinema 4D has integration with both Motion and AE, and plug-ins have been built for both programs which do simple 3D modeling like text fairly cheaply while allowing you to composite motion graphics.
That’s just the way it is.

Make sure you’ve installed all the software updates. There’s a Pro App update that fixes this problem.

Here’s what I’d do. Create your dropzone. On top of that create a rectangle with a red gradient. Then create a square shape and make a replicator out of it so you can have the 8-square pattern that you see in your video. Add an image mask to your red rectangle and use the replicator as the source for the rectangle. Duplicate the replicator and apply the duplicate as the image mask for the drop zone.
Then you can add a sequence replicator to the source layer for the rectangle’s image mask and using the parameters adjust the opacity of some of the squares so that the drop zone below shows through.

March 6, 2011 at 8:03 am in reply to: I cant figure out how to create this effect in motion, ugh!I would probably do it with a single circle paint stroke with a write on behavior attached to it. Then make a replicator of it and adjust the scale so that successive circles were larger or smaller than the initial one created. The write on behavior will give you the streak that you’re looking for. No need to bother with emitters or other overly complicated ways to make animated circles/arcs.

There are plenty of ways to do it. How did you animate it in?

Here’s a tutorial right here on the cow that shows the exact effect you’re attempting.
Hope this helps.
