Export clips as an FCP XML version 2 (or version 1) then reimport that XML … the clip references generated by the XML import should then be recognized by Log and Capture.
Just worked for me anyway

Good thought Stuart, but sadly no joy when I tried today with OSX 10.6.1, FCP7 and XDT 2.10.0.
Imported clips from XDCAM discs recorded in both DVCAM and XDCAM HD formats, in both cases any attempt to later recapture those clips using Batch Capture caused FCP’s Log and Transfer interface to launch.
Fwiw, manually opening Log and Capture interface and pressing the Batch button didn’t work either as it appears it would only launch the Batch Capture when properly “logged” clips existed … logged a clip and the reattempted but only the actually logged clip would appear, other offline clips remained resolutely invisible to the Batch Capture process.
Very sucky for now, but hopefully a workaround (or fix) should emerge shortly.

First rule for success when asking for remote trouble shooting assistance … provide details. You need to tell us all about your hardware, (which Mac, which revision, how much RAM, what you are using for media storage, how much capacity and how much free disc space available etc) also everything about your software (what version of the OS, what version of Quicktime, what version of FCP). Also any details that may be specific to your project and you FCP system setup eg where do you have your capture and render scratch set to? what is the source clip format properties? what are the sequence settings etc etc Too much info is rarely a problem when troubleshooting, but too little info will stump folks every time.

Had heard of this happening with clips initially brought in via FCP’s L&T (from XDCAM EX) but didn’t know it was happening now with clips brought in through Sony’s XDCAM Transfer. What version of XDT are you using? And have you tried reverting to an earlier version and seeing if the issue persists?

Which area is likely to be your major market? Where are you based? Is all of your production/post production equipment (Monitoring, Masterings etc) standards agnostic?
One option to shoot and master 25p for PAL then conform to a 24p for NTSC (with pull down added for 29.97) … this is commonly called the “Slow PAL” method, and for someone coming from a PAL area needing to put something out to an NTSC market then it would be the likely method of choice.
The converse option is as above ie to shoot and master 24p then conform to 25p for PAL land (does that make it the “Fast NTSC” method?)
They are both much of a muchness method/workflow wise, you just have to decide who/what/where is the primary market and/or how it affects your production (and your capability to deal with it).

You’ll want to check your duplicate thread over on Ken Stone …If you want to edit in SD then one option is to cut in an Apple ProRes 422 PAL 48 kHz sequence … edit your clips in as normal (they will be scaled down to fit within the frame; when you’re happy with the basic sequence then select all and press Cmd-Opt-V (to Remove Attributes), tick the Basic Motion checkbox and press OK … now you can reframe as needed with full SD resolution.
An alternative is to cut the edit in HD as the master and then create an SD copy in which you replace only those shots that need reframing as above

The new full raster low data rate ProRes Proxy codec, is absolutely ideal for an offline/online workflow.

This was a known issue with XDCAM Transfer versions prior to version 2.5.1 and OSX 10.5 ( Leopard ) ie the disc would not mount visibly on the desktop. (Sony’s record of getting their Mac based XDCAM software ready for new versions of the Mac OS in a timely fashion is far from exemplary … in this previous instance it took a little over 4 months). With version 2.5.1 the issue was resolved however, which is the version you note as having installed. My guess is a corrupt install and so I’d second Stuart’s advice to install XDT 2.10.0 … it should get you up and running plus its a much better version 🙂

if by the old days you mean just tweaking the setup, gain and chroma pots on the player then the equivalent in FCP’s effects would be the Proc Amp filter ( Effects > Video Effects > Image Control > Proc Amp ) … but the 3 way will give you far more nuanced control
