Perhaps not exactly what you’re looking for but you might try using Option-P (Play Every Frame) for playback when viewing a single channel … it may playback faster or slower than realtime but you should be able to see the action well enough for the decisions you need to make.

You can solo and mute both source and sequence audio by using the Audio Mixer tool window (Opt-6) … just set the source to Auto.

As Tom notes, no way to discern the originating track … has always bugged me.

If your project is already complete then you could just do yourself a great big favour and simply stop worrying about it … master it onto an HDV tape as is and take that to your local facilities house and have them dub it onto HDCAM for you. Job done. Or if you want to make more of an effort (if its graphics heavy or for some reason you thing it will greatly benefit) then duplicate the final master sequence and switch the sequence settings of that duplicate to Apple ProRes 422 (use the Load Sequence Preset option at lower left of the Sequence Settings window), select everything in that sequence and choose Modify > Conform to Sequence, and then Export > Quicktime Movie w/ Current Settings, Make Self Contained. Again, take that to your facilities house and have them master it to HDCAM. Really no need to worry about field dominance and pixel aspect ratio’s etc.

Are you still running a PowerPC up there Rafa? If not then you’ve really gotta grab the 299 upgrade (to FCS 3) to go with all that fancy hardware you’ve already got.

Whilst the iMac may seem like a cost effective machine for basic FCP and AE use, you’ll quickly find yourself struggling with storage and monitoring issues … thats not to say that solutions do not exist for such with the iMac, but you will find you have few alternatives to choose between, and of those, none may necessarily be the best or most cost effective solutions otherwise available. Thats a round about way of saying that given a choice then whilst it may not be the cheapest the MacPro is by far the wisest one.
