    Afternoon all.

I have a problem with my aspect ratio and letterboxing on FCP.

On a camera with a 4:3 chip, I set it to record in 16:9. Now I know that this isn’t real 16:9 so when I came to digitise I ticked anamorphic and when I came to edit my first sequence everything was fine. I got a full frame 16:9 picture in the canvas with no letterboxing and all was hunky dory.

Then I came to edit my second sequence in the same project and when I finished, I realised that the 16:9 image in the canvas was actually letterboxed in a 4:3 aspect ratio. When I tick anamorphic the image turns to a 16:9 letterboxed image so consequently it is squashed.

How can get rid of the letterboxing to have everything in my timeline filling the 16:9 frame?

    Cheers,
    Dylan.

    Dilan,
Select all the clips and “Remove Attributes> Basic Motion”.

Thank you but this isn’t working. ‘Basic Motion’ is greyed out…

Just select all in your timeline and choose Modify menu > Conform to Sequence
    That should do it

    I’m still in FC5:-)
This are the disadvantages of almost never working under pressure.
I should go back to the edit boxes for awhile to get back the speed and the bad habits.

Are you still running a PowerPC up there Rafa? If not then you’ve really gotta grab the 299 upgrade (to FCS 3) to go with all that fancy hardware you’ve already got.

No, I’m working with an Intel and I’ve been with FC6 since the release but I’ve just upgraded to FC 7 (.0.1).
But normally my editing is very slow . Often I write the script while I’m editing. Some times I write directly in the subtitles. I never work with an anxious boss or client looking from behind my shoulder.
This is the only place in the world where you have to put the deadlines to the customers.
Nothing that push me to edit faster. I’ve learnt plenty of short-cuts just to forget them for the lack of use.
Anyway, If the mouse shows that is still alive, what can I complain about?
You know that mouses have a hard life around here: Curry, satay, lap…, so many recipes.
