ah well, worth a shot.
i think the issue is that Quicktime for Windows and Quicktime for Mac are clearly not equal (which is not altogether suprising).
we use an intermediate codec to go between AE on the PC and FCP on the Mac, but thats because we’re using DVCPRO50 which we know does not have PC quicktime support.of course, that doesn’t help you. i’m not really a PC guy so don’t knw what to suggest … the thing is, realistically, you might spend more time trying to ‘fix’ it than it would take to drive back to work and do it agian.
sorry i couldn’t be more helpful

hey, i get to mention a codec i’ve never used twice in 10 minutes!
have a look at SheerVideo from bitjazz
https://www.bitjazz.com/sheervideo/this is not a recomendation from experience though there are many recommendations there from regular contributors to this board
the thing is, your edit is has 13 Gigs worth of raw footage, and theres nothing you can do to make that fit on a 4.7Gb disc without recompressing to a smaller filesize. and thats going to atke some time. you just have to decide what comression to use, and your choice of codec dictates how long its going to take and how good its going to look when you finish. my SheerVideo recomendation is one codec you could use though I don’t if it could compress it down to just 1/3rd the original filesize.
cheers

the easiest way to do this is to use Tools>Render Manger then click in the Remove column for the current project folder and then press OK
thay’ll delete ALL the render files from the project … then hit Opt-R to re-render.alternatively you can drill down through the project folder in the Render Manger window and select what to remove using the Modification Date.
(but that whole process could potentially take longer than a re-render, obviosly depends on the project)cheers

hi Dave
if you haven’t started driving yet, you might try using the SheerVideo codec to read it.
i haven’t tried this codec yet, but was just looking at the bitjazz website … i could be misreading it but they do seem to be able to ‘read’ alot of formats and the have a PC qt component. the full component isn’t free, but they do have a free ‘reader’ so it might be worth a shot.cheers

no earthshattering revelations i’m afraid… but, just checking if you’d tried using the dvc50 “easy setup”?
theres been occasions with multiple users changing formats, tweaking this and that, and adjusting various settings, that the quickest way back to sanity has been reverting to an easy setup and going from there …. just a thought.cheers

As it stands we’ve got 4 x 250GB in each bank, RAID 50, and do already go direct dual port FC to XRaid on separate cables.I ran Blackmagic Speed Disk on it yesterday and got a shockingly crap 50MB/s read and write.
Obviously we won’t be trying any HD until we fill her up, but nonetheless I’d have hoped for better results.I dare say my expectations we too high, but we live and learn.
I’ll take a look and make sure the FC card is in the right slot.
Cheers

from Andrew Balis’ excellent tutorial “Getting the Most Out of Match Frame In Final Cut Pro HD” on kenstone.net
(if you haven’t spent some quality time with the tutorials at kenstone.net you should really take a look)How to Match Frame From Subclips and Merged Clips
When you Match Frame from subclips and synced or merged clips, your Match Frame options are extended. When you sync video and audio clips in FCP, and subsequently use the new merged clip in a sequence, you have two different Match Frame options. You can match back to the merged clip, or back to the original video and audio sources used to create the merged clip. In other words, you can go back to the “child” or “parent” clip. It’s the same with subclips. You can Match Frame back to a subclip, or back to the original source clip used to create the subclip. This is great when, for instance, you’re working with a subclip and want to find another portion of the same media used to create that subclip.
To Match Frame back to the subclip or merged clip, the command is the same as a standard Match Frame:
Press F
or
Match Frame button in Canvas
or
View menu > Match Frame > Master Clip
To Match Frame back to the parent clip, do either:
Command/Option/F
or
View menu > Match Frame > Source File -
Hey mus man
thanks for posting your render timings, thats good info to bear in mind.
fwiw my plugin is not at all sophisticated re the letterbox’s aspect ratio … its preset at a purely subjective value based on what our producers tend to like best when obscuring subtitles in their promo’s. its just a slider to change its size. i dare say i could add a menu selection for standard aspect ratio’s or make the ‘size’ slider snap to those particular values but its not a real priority for my own needs
anyway, glad it worked for you even if it didn’t win the render bake-off
cheers
