I’m trying to understand the render cache as I sometimes get messages that I’m out of space for rendered files and I must delete some. I need to clarify and understand what I can and cannot delete from an ongoing project.

For example, in the render file folder I have numerous files all with the same sequence name followed by FIN-00000098, 00000099, etc. And of course, some of these files are over 3 weeks old all the way up to today. Can I delete the older rendered files? When I played them in the QT player they appear to be the same clip. What’s the best approach to managing this issue?

the easiest way to do this is to use Tools>Render Manger then click in the Remove column for the current project folder and then press OK
thay’ll delete ALL the render files from the project … then hit Opt-R to re-render.

alternatively you can drill down through the project folder in the Render Manger window and select what to remove using the Modification Date.
(but that whole process could potentially take longer than a re-render, obviosly depends on the project)

    cheers

I’ve got a 2 hour heavy graphics project so won’t re-rendering all take a very long time?

If I understand your other suggestion – By choosing the modification date on a segment you’re saying if it has the same name but the dates go from May to today, everything prior to the latest date can be deleted without having to re-render that segment?

    hey Don

thats right on both accounts ….
completely re-rendering would be unwise if your project is two-hours and graphics heavy. good call!
and yes, remove the oldest renders … no need to remove all but the most recent renders, just enough to give you breathing space.

    cheers Andy
