theres an additional upside to this product, albeit a niche one…

in the world of broadcast news, where speed is of the essence, this product allows field editors, working on laptops, in XDCAM HD, HDV and/or other GOP formats, to output a live feed of their edit using HD/SD SDI, directly from the FCP timeline without having to conform the long gop first

to start it would be advisable to render out your finished movie using Export > Quicktimew Movie… using Current settings and Make standalone movie

once thats finished close the original project and create a new one with the same settings, import the previously exported movie from the first step, and then try to Print to Video again

try making your offset adjustments in even numbers only. additionally you might try applying the “video > shift fields” filter to those clips where you’re having problems

i have a widescreen matte generator that you’re welcome to use if that might make things easier for you (you can use the motion properties of the underlying clips to offset as required) you can download it from https://homepage.mac.com/andymees

why not just use “Option +” and “Option -” instead … this always zooms in on the timeline regardless of the active window,
also “Q” toggles between Viewer and Canvas/Timeline windows

its likely to be a couple more months before we see 18mb, 35mb and proxy codec support from Apple … but the 25mb support w/ Sonys plugin is a good start 🙂

    exactly …

    1. No, I don’t only use the preset FCP window layouts, I also use cutom layouts specific to the way i like to work
    2. No, although I do use FCP’s preset “2 up” layout which is a little similar
    3. see above

if you are editing in DV then you should be able to use the workflow you’re suggesting … but not for HDV. are you using HDV? there is no capacity to play HDV over firewire from the timeline whilst editing (you need to conform your edit before you can do this)

been using the 20″ for monitoring via DVI, has been bloody good. been running directly alongside a horribly expensive Sony 23″ Luma display and the color compares very well. the Dell 20″ also has composite and s-video inputs (and a P in P mode) which has been great for monitoring deck sources without having Log and Capture open … for the price i’d say its a very good buy.
