Afaik and this is purely anecdotal form forums such as these, CC on Line 21 is/was preserved when capturing Uncompressed using Blackmagic Design Decklink hardware with FCP … or at least, it used to be so. Perhaps more recent hardware and drivers have lost or disabled this capability? Either way, the usual issue is that FCP in and of itself does not support/preserve this data, so that any renedring whatsoever will strip the data. So if you capture it and then play it straight back out you;d be fine, but post process in any way and its lost.

it sounds like it. With XDT2.7 you should be able to add that folder directly ie click “Add” and then navigate to and choose that parent folder. if that is not working you might want to experiment by creating a new folder called BPAV within that parent folder, then copying all the other files in the parent into that new BPAV folder. Then try again ie click “Add” and navigate to and choose the parent folder (not the BPAV folder itself).

FWIW They will probably accept delivery on HDCAM tape … but their technical specifications for delivery will likely be very specific, so its not just what physical format to give them you need to concern yourself with, but also ensuring that it will pass QC once they receive it.

Every network, major or otherwise, will have a document spelling out their requirements for deliverables of commissioned work and you need to ask for it if for some reason this has not already been provided to you.

Lots of folks here on the Cow routinely work for or deliver to major networks, its nothing to be worried about. If you let us know which network you may find that someone here is able to help you quite specifically.

if the audio is part of a stereo pair then you need to break that hard pairing … select the clip and press Opt-L (or deselect Modify menu > Stereo Pair)

once thats done, if “Linked Selection” is turned on, then you can select individual elements of a clip by holding down the Option key when clicking on any clip track … holding the Option key will override the current “Linked Selection” status… if “Linked Selection” is already turned off then a normal click will select only the element of the clip selected. You can toggle the “Linked Selection” status on/off by pressing Shift-L (or selecting Edit menu > Linked Selection … or by pressing the button that looks like a chain link at top right of the timeline window’s button bar)

the unrendered audio beeps may be caused by the format of your audio .. if its an unsupported format / something peculiar then you might want to transcode to a more suitable codec before editing with this footage … if it is simply because you have gone over out your default capacity for real time audio tracks then you might want to pay a quick visit to your FCP > User Preferences >> General tab (press Opt-Q) and then increase your Real-time Audio Mixing setting (default is 8 but is sounds like you need to push that up to 10 or 12)

just did a test here and I’m seeing the same as you …

regardless of the field dominance settings of the sequence the canvas always displays the upper field only when the playhead is parked.

bizarrely, even if the clip has the De-interlace filter applied, and set to remove the upper field, it still shows the upper field when the playhead is parked (although it will correctly display lower field only during playback)

with the canvas at 100% you can see both interleaved fields when the playhead is parked or during playback.

On reason 1. I would have to agree, the field displayed in the canvas when parked or during playback should default to the dominant field as specified in the sequence settings … for reason 2. I would have to disagree inasmuch as whether Avid performs a function in a certain manner or not should have no bearing on how FCP should work.

I think importing each page as separate elements, as you suggest yourself, would be the best idea … as far as I know there is currently no fancy method of handling multipage pdf’s within FCP and I fear that such a fluffy feature is just the sort of thing the FCP devs would happily waste their time on … so please keep it quiet 🙂

I may be mistaken, but I always assumed the field displayed in the canvas was dependent on the field dominance setting of the sequence.

If thats the case then you might set the field dominance of your canvas to Lower as an interim measure, of course remembering to reset to Upper before final re-render and output

Failing that, if you set your Canvas to 100% you can see both fields and so should be able to spot where the interleaving is showing separate images

Another workaround would be to apply a de-interlace filter to the clips (selecting Lower field) … and again you’d have to remember to remove it after the fact

For what its worth, being able to jog by field has been a much asked for feature request for a long long time, so PLEASE add your own voice officially by visiting Apples Feedback page and politely requesting it. Many hands make light work.

Hi Michael

My feeling is that this is a bug in FCP and cannot be fixed by an update to XDCAM Transfer.
XDCAM Transfer copies and rewraps files to the target HD without issue and these files are then imported to FCP by FCP itself not by XDCAM Transfer. XDT creates an XML file describing the clip as an item contained by the targeted project, that clip is then “imported” to FCP by triggering an AppleEvent in FCP to Open the XML file ie FCP is controlling the import… at this point XDT has no more to do with it. As far as I can tell the problem is a cosmetic one caused by the process of importing a file into a bin by this method if and when the imported file cannot be graphically displayed in that bin (without scrolling) directly after the import due to the browser window already being full.

Its certainly a pain, anyway.
