Thanks Gary, but I think have misinterpreted my question here. We’re not debating the existence of the Log and Transfer plug in (heck I even quoted the product code PDZK-LT1) rather its ability (or not) to be able to transcode to ProRes during transfer. At present my understanding is that it does not ie like the XDCAM Transfer app it only rewraps the MXF source as MOV.

Thanks Walter
Just for clarity, I’m interested specifically whether the L&T plug in allows direct transcode to / ingest as ProRes … obviously the realtime baseband ingest to ProRes via Kona or similar is a given. Thing is I’ve stated myself time and again that direct transcode of XD EX via L&T is not an option, and that XDT is a superior software for handling XD ingest to FCP… if direct transcode to ProRes is actually possible then its time I stopped saying it wasn’t (plus if the L&T plugin can handle this transcode then it is almost certainly the superior ingest option as compared to XDT which does not).

If you download the correct plug-in for Final Cut Pro you will be able to use the Log and Transfer Window to convert all the material directly to ProRes for editing.
Walter, you’ve stated this as fact a couple of times now … with the greatest respect I think you may be have been misinformed on this point. Or it could be me. The only Log and Transfer plugin I am aware of for XDCAM EX ingest to FCP is Sony’s PDZK-LT1. The last time I checked this plugin appeared to allow transfer and rewrap of the camera native clips to quicktime but not transcode to ProRes … that is something you would have to do after the fact.
Tel, an excellent workflow is to work with the native camera files but set your render codec to ProRes … converting to ProRes after the fact just adds time and filesize to your project, you won’t get a gnat’s whisker more quality. Ingest your clips using Sony XDCAM Transfer (PDZK-P1) or FCP Log and Transfer with the PDZK-LT1 plug in (the former offers arguably more functionality but as a separate app might be something you don’t care to use). Edit in a native XDCAM EX timeline with renders set to ProRes (this means your intermediate workflow will benefit from the lower data rate and hence storage requirements for the source media, and the higher render quality and faster rendering of effects to ProRes, albeit to a larger render file size, if and when you need to do so). Output/Export your final master using ProRes as the target codec, that way you’ll end up with that high quality ProRes master that Walter has described …

That correct Walter, but I think if you check you’ll find that Sony’s plugin only enables transfer not transcode. (Last time I looked anyway … PDKZ-LT1)

this was posted on MacRumors earlier: https://www.apple.com/pr/library/2009/03/03macpro.html
Apple today introduced the new Mac Pro using Intel “Nehalem” Xeon processors and a next-generation system architecture to deliver up to twice the performance of the previous generation system.* The new Mac Pro starts at $2,499 and features the latest graphics technology and an updated interior that makes expansion even easier than before.
“The new Mac Pro is a significant upgrade and starts at $300 less than before,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing. “The Mac Pro features an advanced system architecture, new faster processors and our best-ever graphics options to deliver a faster, more powerful system that our professional customers are going to love.”The new Mac Pro includes Intel Xeon processors running at speeds up to 2.93 GHz, each with an integrated memory controller with three channels of 1066 MHz DDR3 ECC memory that delivers up to 2.4 times the memory bandwidth while cutting memory latency up to 40 percent.** Every Mac Pro comes standard with the NVIDIA GeForce GT 120 with 512MB of GDDR3 memory, a high-performance graphics card with nearly three times greater performance when compared to the previous generation system.*** An optional ATI Radeon HD 4870 is available for even more performance. With both a Mini DisplayPort and DVI port, the new Mac Pro provides out-of-the-box support for the 24-inch Apple LED Cinema Display, the 30-inch Apple Cinema HD Display, or other DVI based displays.
– $2499. One 2.66GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon 3500 Processor. 3GB of RAM. NVIDIA GeForce GT 120. 640GB HD.
– $3299. Two 2.26GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon 5500 Processor. 6GB of RAM. NVIDIA GeForce GT 120. 640GB HD. -

What is it you actually want to do? To be fair to those poster’s replying to you here you need to be clear.
In one post you simply ask “Hello! Do you experienced any kind of problems with the hardware based downconversion methods? Intend to buy an decklink hd extreme, but noy know if it s a good choice or not?” and get a good answer (AJA Kona hardware) … but then you ask “Can you achieve that clean, sharp, contrast, hollywood dvd style image with compressor? Is it worthing to invest in Cinema craft encoder plug in for compressor or a a hardware solution as you have?” which is a completely different question. So what is it that you want to do … a quality down-conversion or create a “hollywood” quality DVD? They are not one and the same thing.

if you feel a deep desire to use a jog/shuttle then you’d probably be better off with one that works by hooking into FCP’s control surface support … these keystroke senders can often be an exercise in frustration
the Tascam FireOne might suit or maybe an AlphaTrack if you want to tread new ground
